  Was there a story behind the destroyed tank?  It looks like the gun barrel was shredded.  Very telling photos.  Thanks.

there are lots of stories about this one:

*M4A3 but some say an M4 with a late model barrel, replacing should be an initiative from the crew
*saved by the local priest from the scrap guys in 1950, notice that half of the tank was already cut
*barrel fired in compressed status destroying the barrel

looking for the complete story!

Koen,

I did some internet checking, under 2nd Armored Div and 84 Inf for Wibrin, but could only find a lot of tourist stuff showing the tank.  There was some Dutch information that I couldn't translate, that didn't appear to be specific.  There were some personal accounts from the 2nd Armored Div but they only mentioned they fought along the road from Houffalieze through Wibrin and took all the towns in the process.  No details on losses.

When I consulted my "library," I found I had very few specifics on the Ardennes Offensive.  Most of my books cover the eastern front.  Perhaps I should rectify that....someday.....when I find the money, ha ha.  I'll try some other angles.

well, Unternehmen Wacht am Rhein, is a short period in WWII...but it's full of details...

especially for Belgian people is a period never to forget...

I'm very interested in it, will take more pictures next year...I still have lots of pictures to work on before I upload them...
