Have a look at this trailer.
Red Tails (2012) HD Movie Trailer - Lucasfilm Official Trailer


If you look close at the first Messerschmidt you see a symbol which resembles closely the 3rd SS divisions unit markings.
Can anybody tell me if this is correct for this luftwaffe unit, or is it Lucas own idea?

The only recognisable symbol there for me was JG 3's Falcon.

I think that's a hollywood symbol. I've done Luftwaffe aircraft for over 40 years now and I don't remember ever seeing that insignia.
