OK, something to funk things up a bit, anybody recall "Wild Cherry"?

I guess not, but then maybe Robert Parissi rings a bell...!

Time somebody goes and covers it *with authority*, musically Vanilla Ice was the way to go, but overall, eeek... (producers, hint hint...! Smiley )

Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry (1976)

This one (next vid below) at least sounds fresh, here to the casting shows (Hungry in this case), 2nd time that I discover a diamond following them. 1st vocal diamond was of course - as published here before - Amadine Burgeois, France (from my personal POV there is still a light years difference between the two, Amadine has not been surpassed for the best newcomer I have heard in the last 3 yrs... Just hearing her utter "Hey, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, I dont want to leave you" at around 1:56 into the medley makes my skin crawl... ):

2nd, and the one I am refering to, Szabó Eszter:

Szabó Eszter - Play that Funky music white boy - Wild Cherry

Enjoy, or not,

Bahrain F1 cancelled. Why?

Because the people of Bahrain were just as fed up with their slavery as the rest of the people that we feed and that we feed off as "The West", and as we are here (though here you wont find somebody taking to the streets, less just learnng English or just travel), and because they had musical drive behind them for their attempts to overthrow their enslaving (US and EU paid) governer.

Authorities attacked ppl on the street like they did in Lybia, but there is not much oil in the equation, so we just let this (ongoing!) uprise drop off the news and as such off the minds of the world: Its really more important to somehow install somebody in Lybia who will follow on line and keep the barrels rolling...

This to the Barhein people struggeling, even if the song is 3 yrs old its the guys that set the path and the future or failure of the "Uproar Around The Med": Their English sounds fairly American, but their Arab then fits as well or even better for rapping than what comes from The Empire, "gansta" class (Sugarhill gang still beets everything, of course Smiley ).

Oh nothing special, just missed the space bar Smiley

Boy, happens to me regularily, the entry door to our space bar here in Andratx is just too small even when youre sober (35 cm?), when youre a little tipsy you miss it easily at first try... Problem then is that they have that big Ucranian in the door who doesent even faintly understand any Spanish, but he knows that when you miss first time he will not give you a 2nd try.

Actually, he just sits there, in his corner, but when you miss space bar youre sure you want to give him a try?

Interesting that you should have a Space Bar over there, close to A´dam, as well, but then, with David Bowies song being so popular, probably every town on the planet has one...

This one song here is for MontyB, who never answered my request about those singers/performers, now he´ll have to live with me posting them here without any remorse on how NZ will be regarded... Though I must credit them that they sound more Bowie than the man himself in parts of the performance. And, they made me smile, something I am not accustomed to be triggered by ANZAC ppl, especially when transmitting from "nipple antennae"... Smiley

Flight of the Conchords Ep 6 Bowie's In Space

Rattler

P.S.: Just joking, no bar named space bar here, and the guy of the photo might as well be a gardener on holiday, havent seen him before at all. Just could not resist letting the pun go by... No relief for MontyB, though, those guys are really from NZ... R.

Ok, I am more or less back (my 6 weeks project has finished, wrapping up will take a few days but its not 16/7  anymore).

To celebrate this, here a nice compilation (and I am the first to fully subscribe the first comment on utube: "Headphones and weed recommended for this one", let me add "Full Monitor" for the first two and "Relax Mode" in general as personal requisits...) of one of my favorite "Yes" sequences, one of the sequences that made me take music seriously, the essential subtilities are basically undetectable for the ear and can only be heard with the heart, I include the (initially seemingly not fitting) third piece on purpose, after 3:something it is one of the tunes/lyrics that are most deeply imprinted into my memory:

Yes - Fantastic Planet

Wonderous Stories by Yes

Yes - Heart of the Sunrise

Enjoy, or not!

A singer I long had wanted to feature here, but always forgot somehow: Joao Gilberto from Brazil.

While I do not understand all the lyrics (Portugese in the end yes is a lot different from Spanish, I understand more the Italian songs like #2 I feature here) I get the gist of all of his songs lyrics and the message he generally transports, and I like it: Unfeathered emotion and true sentiment combine perfectly with his light guitar hand and the Bossa Nova/Samba rhythms he displays with this unique almost disappearing voice... Not surprisingly his "Garota de Ipanema" (Girl From Ipanema, #3 featured) is my favorite version of this classic...

For me, the man is coming over sooooo "natural" and authentic, and his songs over the last 25 years have soothed me over and over either in a bar with too much too drink or at home when I needed to cool down from some heavy beating, or they even have made great background for my (once) formal dinners... All in all: One of the geniouses.

Enjoy, or not,

Rattler

Now I am openmouthed flabbergasted: I had the impresion we had this osng on our thread in more than one version but cannot get a search result (Alzheimer? I am sure I posted it "somewhere" and had assumed it had been here, but then, age does not forgive....).

Anyway, just to make sure, here it goes, in a Hard Rock version of the Spanish band "Boikot":

Quote

Boikot- Comandante Che Guevara

For me this is the perfect soundtrack for a "attack helos" movie, one day I am going to grab it ("Hinds" maneuvers over this soundtrack, jjust to stick with the political gist), example movie here (conviniently w/o sound):

Hind dance

Enjoy, or not

been to a live concert of Marco Borsato which was a bad concert but 1 detail made it worth, they played my favourite song as last AND they played it WELL!
this song is SO who I was (but the feeling is still deep inside of me)

lyrics:

Quote
De lente zon gaat stralen
Ze slaat haar vleugels uit
De vogels komen dichterbij
Maar jij hoort geen geluid

Gevangen in een stilte
Gaat dit ooit voorbij?
Je ziet het nieuwe leven niet
Je voelt alleen de pijn

De bomen laten hun bloesem vrij
De geur die wordt verspreid
Het doet je niet zoveel
Lentesneeuw

Lentesneeuw
Je ziet lentesneeuw

translated
Quote
The spring sun sends her rays
She unfolds her wings
The birds come closer
But you hear no sound

Caught in a silence
Will this ever pass?
You don't see the new life
You only feel the pain

The trees show their blossoms freely
The smell that is distributed
It doesn't do you much
Spring Snow
You see spring snow

You turn your eyes upward
You wonder why
You've see no light for too long
Even if the sun shines

The trees show their blossoms freely
The smell that is distributed
It doesn't do you much
Spring Snow
You see spring snow

Marco Borsato - Lentesneeuw (External Embedding Disabled)

I hope you understand this song even when it is in Dutch, it's special

As far as the lyrics, there is a remedy: Go live in Majorca.... Smiley

Thanks very much indeed FacMan, had this song running in the background while preparing the next post: Every day is a good (or bad?) day to die, methinks (and I plan to stick around a while longer, I am just too curious whats going to develop from this crazy layout we are living).

This said, met a Spanish (active, Weapon Specialist attached to an inf regiment here in Mallorca, who has served in Bosnia) soldier and his friend today and had a heartwarm conversation over some time.

Not only did I learn a new joke about the Spanish military ("Spanish soldiers never retreat: They just do a 180 degrees turn and keep advancing!") but also got a lively update on how the current setups are compared to the Franco setup, how the youth sees the future of the Spanish Artmy, etc. ... I look forward to meet them here on the forum one day, hopefully.

Anyway, I hope you grant me permission to dedicate two songs to this encounter and those two great persons, but also to my favorite legionary "Solideo" of course (I know he will like at least one of them):

The evolution of the Spanish soldier (sorry guys for the music being in English...  hihi):

Evolución del soldado español

The video reminds me: I have to go and see the military history museum in Palma one day...!

And, from the Spanish band "Tierra Santa" the song "Mejor morir en pie" (= "better to die fighting"):

Quote
No he de rendirme aunque caiga al andar
No estaré vivo si he de huir.
Si por vivir, no he de ser dueño de mí
Mejor en pie morir

Se que nadie elige tropezar
En las piedras que están en el camino
Sé que cuando empiece a caminar
He de labrar yo, mi propio destino

No estaré vivo si he de huir
Si por vivir, no he de ser dueño de mí
Mejor en pie morir

Nunca nadie habrá de doblegar
El valor que alimenta mi vida
Nunca harán mi pierna arrodillar
Aunque el dolor atormente mis heridas
No habrá quien pueda mi espíritu quebrar
Vencer mi alma ni mi fe
Si he de caer, antes elijo poder
Mejor morir en pie

Tierra Santa mejor morir en pie

The video is a bit stupid, I agree, but I like the lyrics. I have no time now for translation but will do so when I find it.

1 saludo,

 salute
