Make yourself comfortable, check out The Rules (we only have a basic few:
http://www.warandtactics.com/smf/rules/) and start exploring, plenty of stuff to find.
In your profile (see "Profile" tab in the upper tab row) you can customize a lot of stuff, as basic I would recommend to select your time zone so that you get correct forum times.
To get an idea of forum mechanics: The "Help" Button in the upper tab row is extremely helpful, and the "How-To and Q&A" section (
http://www.warandtactics.com/smf/wat-board-technical-info/) will explain extra stuff that is not covered in the standard help texts. Should any questions remain open, do not hesitate to contact me anytime.
