Welcome to War and Tactics!    War and Tactics Forum is currently undergoing some modifications that might disable features you are used to. This is unabvoidable as we have to update the forum engine to a new structure that is incompatible with many of the features we had used so far. The good news: WaT will be more secure and stable, and most of the features we uninstalled will be a natural part of the new structure anyway. For the rest we will be looking for solutions. Ysselstein. the place of the war cemetery for the German army.
Thousands of German soldiers are buried here, who died in the first and second world war on Dutch soil.
Allthough there is some controverse because of SS men also buried there the general feeling is one of respect.
A lot of people dont see the majority of the soldiers as criminals but rather as men forced to fight for a lost cause or evil empire.

Today on Volkstrauertag flowers were layed at the monument.
Among the guests were many officers from abroad.
The commander of the Dutch airmobile brigade also gave acte de presence.

Today, exactly 71 years after the failed assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler by Colonel Graf von Stauffenberg, German and international collegues lined up at the German military cemetery in Ysselsteyn, to commemorate the soldiers who have lost their lifes in war and tyranny.
More than 31.500 German German soldiers, most very young, found here in the largest German military cemetery of the world their final resting place. Former enemies became partners. Official delegations from Canada and the Netherlands took part in this ceremony and therefore demonstrated this partnership impressively.
