Welcome to War and Tactics!    War and Tactics Forum is currently undergoing some modifications that might disable features you are used to. This is unabvoidable as we have to update the forum engine to a new structure that is incompatible with many of the features we had used so far. The good news: WaT will be more secure and stable, and most of the features we uninstalled will be a natural part of the new structure anyway. For the rest we will be looking for solutions. DARPA has it: The submergible airplane (or the flying submarine, your choice):

From ARES:

Quote
DARPA is seeking concepts for an aircraft that can clandestinely insert and extract an eight-person special-forces team. The mission is to take off from a runway, fly 1,000nm as a conventional aircraft, fly another 100nm close to the surface, then travel the final 12nm to the coast underwater. Transit should take less than 8 hours, including any time required to land on water and reconfigure from aircraft to submarine - and the vehicle should be able to loiter near the coastline - on or under the surface - for three days in sea state 5. Then return the same way...

Breaking News:

According to well informed circles affiliated to CPX organizers that employ a certain sim engine, the craft in question will shorty be tested in a RL mission and be used to infiltrate a team of yet undisclosed composition to accelerate a certain development stage of said engine by coercing a certain Major who is currently believed to hide in a retreat somewhere in Texas:

Here the basics for the OPORD as laid out atm:

Quote from: */censored/* (OPSEC!)
To summarise all points on this topic:

1. The insertion at night and from high altitude of a SEAL or SAS team over
a certain compound --or shack-- somewhere in Texas. (Those gents would be
lavishly furnished with anti-ophidic serum, just in case).
2. The seizure of its owner at gunpoint and,
3. The employment of certain politically incorrect persuasion methods, like
forcing him to listen to the English version of a Venezuela's President
Chavez complete speech
4. You could add take kayak(s) away from owner
5. We'd have to hope for the addition of a French OOB to /*censored/*. We send in
the DGSE as they've experience in sinking watercraft and will use
"persuasion" to get those French units included

After securing said occupant of compound/shack somewhere in Texas:
Apply the following protection units to guide work progress...

6.) 3x Security Guard [24/7 coverage - deals with salesmen and pizza
delivery boys]
7.) 2x Masseuse [working in relays to deal with back and should pain from
long hours coding]
8.) 1x Web Assistant [deals with spam and silly emails requesting
air-droppable horse-drawn artillery]
9.) 1x Research Assistant [figures out stats for obscure user requested
equipment only used in one battle]
Allow for complex back door request for a paratroop routine as small example

10.) 1x Maintenance Specialist [picks up hurled beer cans after debugging
sessions]
11.) 1x Supply Specialist [keeps code bunker stocked]
12.) 1x Team leader [takes care of administrative crap and whining]

Just FYI, I will keep you updated on any new developments

WTF are you babbling about this time?   Huh?

The last thing you would need for some sort of covert ops in Texas is a SUBMERSIBLE airplane.   Rollende ogen  Large bodies of water are not one of our assets.  Fire up GE and you will see what I mean.   Grijns

Without wanting to give away too much, the mentioned water craft used by the target should give you a hint about the terrain those brave heroes will encounter...  Grijns (and only because it was related to the article did I not post this to OT where it belongs, mods, feel free to split or move).

A (rather old) comms of the target with yet unknown subjects that INTEL/CI was able to intercept proves w/o doubt that the craft might come in handy in the operation:

Quote
The dry lake/snake and scorpion refuge next to my vacation cabin in West
Texas is no longer empty.  Last Friday and Saturday Tropical Storm Erin
passed directly over the watershed that leads to the  lake.  The lake
then rose 28 feet in one day and is now almost completely full.  It is
said that the local wildlife fled the rising water and now control the
surrounding high ground.  I expect to depart on Monday to deal with that
threat in the week leading up to the Labor Day holidays.  Smiley

Additionally, JLENS surrveillance of the target has supplied the team with attached IMINT (click to enlarge) which also suggests the submersible a/c being apt for the job.  Knipoog
