Welcome to War and Tactics!    War and Tactics Forum is currently undergoing some modifications that might disable features you are used to. This is unabvoidable as we have to update the forum engine to a new structure that is incompatible with many of the features we had used so far. The good news: WaT will be more secure and stable, and most of the features we uninstalled will be a natural part of the new structure anyway. For the rest we will be looking for solutions. about time I introduced myself here... congrats

Koen, 39 by now, made in the summer of '69, born some 9 months later Grijns

Married to Karine for 1.5 years, sharing the bad and the good for 8.5 years, who gave me an extra of 2 daughters for free, included in the package  iconclap

Karine having a beer in Bazel last week

By now those 2 daughters gave me 4 granchildren...yep...4 times grandfather without having a child of my own  hihi

l to r: me, Karines oldest daughter, Lise, Luna and my future son-in-law (nono, not my brother..)

my grandson Jarse, great mini-guy

the 2 grandchildren from Karines youngest daughter: Jilka and Jarse

Karines youngest daughter Kenny

I live in a small town in Belgium, 2 miles beyond civilization....

Most of the time I worked in the carbusiness but there are plans for a 360° turn!
I'm looking into the possibility to return to school. (short term but with other professional career possibilities and certainly more 'fun at work')

I was an NCO in the Belgian Air Force from 1988 to 1995.

1988-1989 was school where I scored a degree 'airplanetechnician'
1989-1990 was a 2nd year at school where I scored again...F-16 engine specialist
1990 I went to Kleine-Brogel for practical training with the F-16
1991 Then it was time to start working and I moved to Bevekom with the 1 Wing where I got redirected to 349 squadron (LINK) as a crew-chief.
There I served until I retired in 1995.

This period was not my best period in life.
The plan was to join the ground forces but my brother convinced me, being a member of the groundforces, to join the airforce.
After some time I realised that I was simply a technician in an army and not a soldier/NCO who had a technical function. In those 7 years I probably only fired 5 times a weapon. Never went on REAL exercises to crawl through the mud, sleep in a tent or other REAL soldiers-stuff. When we went on exercise they loaded a C-130 with beer and food to keep us entertained.

The most fun was on some of the international meetings I worked for NATO being able to express myself in English, French and German I was rapidly appointed to interpreter with the free beers and BBQ stuff!
(got some nice pictures from then but I need to digitalize them)

I went to Corsica for a 6 weeks BAF exercise, went to the UK for a small NATO exercise (on the Vulcan RAF base), had fun on a NATO exercise at Florennes (B) and participated at a NATO exercise on the homebase at Bevekom.

Koen,  thanks for sharing your life experiences with us.  Being new on here,  I really don't have a clue to who is who or anything about them.  With maybe one or two exceptions.  You have such a lovely family.   champ
