The Germans in ww 2 had tanks with a metal rack over the top of the tank.  Wh at were these and what purpose did they serve?  They look like giant luggage racks.

Well the Germans were travelling a lot so they needed luggage racks.

I assume you mean something like this...



If so they are most likely communications vehicles and what you are describing as luggage racks are in fact antenna.

While I have never seen a similar set up on an actual tank they are still afvs.

when you look closely at most pictures of these vehicles you'll see alot of officers hangin' around.... comms=commanding
