Welcome to War and Tactics!    War and Tactics Forum is currently undergoing some modifications that might disable features you are used to. This is unabvoidable as we have to update the forum engine to a new structure that is incompatible with many of the features we had used so far. The good news: WaT will be more secure and stable, and most of the features we uninstalled will be a natural part of the new structure anyway. For the rest we will be looking for solutions. -snip- this is one very interesting post.  The diversity is staggering.  I see music I've never heard of, and some that I didn't think anyone even knew about any more. -snip- You and Jilly switched gears so quickly.  It is hard to keep up.

Yes, this thread is becoming cult, I have heard now from friends (I have it featured it on some of my blogs) that they can hardly wait to see what has been added. Myself, just chosing a random page is fun, scuh an interesting mix from classic, over rock to hard rock, and from so different sources, but most of all: Simply great music... Smiley

This morning there was an intensive flameco program on TV, focussed on the dance part (baile) accompanied by great musicians (we have 4 of our 8 channels playing different music from 0530-0700 every morning, now just need to find out how to grab some to my machine), this made me listen to some of my stuff, here is what was running until now:

One of my favorite Flamenco singers, Enrique Morentes (I have mentioned him before), together with one of my favorite dancers from the ´90s, Eva "La Yerbabuena", interpreting a poem of Garcia Lorca. This must have been late ´90s, as Morente is significantly older now, and Eva has gained some 20 kilos.

(You will have to turn your volume up)

Enrique Morente Y Eva Yerbabuena

Here Eva dancing Fandangos accompanied by great singer and guitarists, pure sensuality. I will never uderstand how those great dancers manage not to fall over their outfit:

(CAUTION: If you turned your volume up before, reduce it to normal for the next two)

Eva Yerbabuena Fandangos

And, one of the most beautiful flamenco songs, by and performed by David "Dorantes" Peña on the piano: "Semblanzas de un Rio", the dancer is the famous and unique Pastora Galván.

David Peña Dorantes. Piano flamenco.

Enjoy!

next to being an '80s fan I also had a nice heritage from my older brothers with LP and maxis from the 70s

this is one of my favourites, altough it's not the long version of 7:16 which is even sexier than this one...

Sarah Brightman "The Adventures Of The Love Crusader"

******************************

and now for something completely different...late 80s was the birth of new-beat in Belgium....all that followed was well....a follow-up...hardbeat/italo etc..

this song was a huge clubhit in 1990, remember...this is ment to be heard LOUD, in a disco or when you feel like dancing to it...it's not the sit-still and enjoy kind of music...have some drinks...dim the lights and wiggle it  hihi

D Shake - Yaah/Technotrance (house/techno)

yes, I love music from very different aspects in the music world...

another classic:

[Airplay Records] Age of Love - Age of Love

and another one, sry...When I get backflashed (?) into time it's hard to pull me back

C.C.C.P - made in Russia

and for the die-hards...I got 3 maxis of this one...this was about the time I left home...my dad had weird feelings about me when I said this is a great tune... reddevil

cherrymoon trax - jesus loves the acid (Embedding disabled, limit reached)

enough for now.... Brede lach

The only one that hits me, its kinda "ganja all the way!" Smiley

A few from Runrig...

Nice, relaxed stuff between folk and country: Never heard those, remind me a bit of the "Local Hero" soundtrack, Knopflers "Going Home" (only starts after 0:30 into the vid, end of the movie: Mac comes home to the city from the cabin, and this song on the credits... It´s when I get goose bumps in this film... Not best quality, but goes along soooo well with the pix, I will add a higher quality version of that all time beauty - live - below):

Local Hero "Going Home"

another dance/club classic...

very simple but man...what a tune...

16 BIT - Where Are You? (1986)

the very early beginning of modern dancemusic...PUMP UP DA VOLUME BABY woohoo

and this one....inbetween dance and new-wave

Grauzone - Eisbär

and what about a B-side? very addictive tune...a club smash-hit...remember...this is 25 years ago....

Grauzone - Film2

next one is a great example in how new-beat turned into hard-beat...heavier and more aggressive

ADAMS & KRIMSON PROJECT - Seeds Of Love

and one of THE classics...

Cherry Moon trax 1 : The house of house (Embedding disabled, limit reached)

in that period dancemusic was Belgian....independent releases...DJ's working overtime....one of the best known dancings...Boccaccio....drugs and party...

When my son was but a little fellow (4-5), I told him that this song was about him and I, to this day, it is our theme song and whenever he or I hear it, the flood of happy memories return. I dont know what made me think of using it in this manner, maybe it was the fact his mother and I had divorced and I wanted to instill a strength in him that we would always win...because 'We ARE the Champions'! This one is dedicated to my son... I love you, Boy!

Queen: We Are The Champions (Lyrics)

ps. A similar picture can be found in the April or May 1975 'Rolling Stone' magazine, taken while I was carrying him through a huge crowd at the 'SNACK' Benefit concert in S.F. Since it was a benefit for after school activities, the caption read 'Child Rearing'. The 2nd pic is of my Boy at work.

my translation of this nice song by extremaduro:

Quote
I don´t need clothes, I am dressed in the smell
from yesterday
I don´t need clothes, me dresses the taste
of honey.
I do not need to be nothing between you and me
skin.
Do not need anything from your heart
drink.

We stay near the ground
at the height of your waist
or stay near the ground
where is reflected the moon.

Check out that beautiful meadow!
Here we can tumble!
and there arrived a thousand mosquitoes
and started to pinch
us high in the ass and
we went jumping;
We were like two frogs
in search of a single pond.

And just to touch the moon will disarm it
and the light inside the pond is lit.
Like two drops of water of different clouds,
rising and falling.

We stay near the ground
at the height of your waist
or stay near the ground
where is reflected the moon.

See that beautiful bar!
We can get drunk!
it was full of friends
and they started inviting;
began to sing the Fito
and we went jumping
with the heart gone soft
we rose to the top.

And just to touch the moon
will disarm it
and the light inside the pond
is lit.
Like two drops of water
of different clouds,
rising and falling.

We stay near the ground
at the height of your waist
or stay near the ground
where you can touch the moon.

like water i am
looking for the way down
and i let myself fall
straight to your feet.
Together we are as waterfalls
that go backwards
and we rise again... upwards!

I mount downwards in your eyes
and let myself go.
And in front of me and behind me
there wont be any rule let standing
that we can not jump,
and no limit we cannot cross.

We stay near the ground
at the height of your waist
or stay near the ground
where you can touch the moon.

i often hear some ppl say *real* funk and soul died with james brown...

well, those defaetists will have to wait a little longer, at least while fred wesley, maceo parker and pee wee ellis are still around...

one for introduction of the players, after that we get serious....

dedicated to all who love good funky soul and cannot sit still to "sex machine": PLAY THAT FUNKY HORN! (hey, all caps works as well...  Grijns ):

I need somebody - maceo parker, fred wesley, pee wee ellis

if you ever get a chance to see them perform live, either solo with their respecitve formations or together, take it! makes james brown sound antiquated... Smiley

Maceo Parker "There Was A Time", Germany, 2003

great "audience participation" piece with all three together, don´t know why they dub that "jazz" today when it is nothing but pure groove? (whoever does not find himself moving whatever body parts after 2 mins into that one, well, you probably picked the wrong thread  Grijns )

Jazz à Vienne(2005) - House Party: f. wesley, p. "wee" ellis, m. parker

last, a real slow soul ballad of the finest, performin an old marvin gaye title, a gem!

Marvin Gaye "Let's Get It On" performed by f. wesley & maceo parker & pee wee ellis

enjoy,
