  The re-make by Limp Bizkit is sort of a melodic sleep-walk through the song.  The original was edgy, angry, and by The Who.  You couldn't improve on that. 

  I think The Who's version is much better, but then I am dating myself by prefering The Who over Limp Bizkit.

  Also, for another amazing classic song, John Entwistle wrote "Had Enough" for The Who, and so much of it rings applicable to today, even though the song was written in 1978.  I'd post it but don't really know how for this forum.  Great songs, those two.

Man, I almost died laughing at the Zidane video to the tune of Rammstein's, "Du Hasst Mich." 

My family and I were watching the game, but decided to head out to a restaurant to eat, instead of watching it to the end.  We were more hungry than interested.  When we got to the restaurant, guess what was on the TV?  Yep, the game, so I was half watching out of the corner of my eye, when suddenly......The Infamous Head Butt!  I couldn't believe what I had just seen.  I had to see it several times, in slow motion, to finally have it dawn on me what Zidane had done.  Amazing.  As for that video, I better not watch it too many times in a row, or I'll need to be hospitalized.  That is lethally funny.

I've taken my hi-fi set out of the closet...

still works fine...it was top-notch Pioneer in '89...got to buy some new loudspeakers...difficult to choose, not too big, not too expensive and good sound...any suggestions?...get new cables and see if my turntable still works good enough...I'll buy a new needle to start with...

I've got too many LP's etc to keep the hi-fi stored in the closet....

the cassetedeck has given up a couple of years ago...quite normal...intensively used...and it is mechanical...

Long time no music... or too many vids in one post which make it hard to listen to the whole post...

Probably it is just my taste, but the way I address a music post is *selecting* the "example" - or what I judge to be the "best" piece from an artist I want to feature/present because I am intrigued, and not add up the ones that I find equally good (if they do not convolute as part of the thread, i.e. "illustrating" a narrated history, as in my "Leningrad Coboys" post). I always fear that the superficial reader - while basically interested in music or its history - when having to chose from many pieces in one post will always - Murphy´s Law! - pick the one that least suits his taste and will not more than superficially check the rest, if at all...

This said, as I still not have finished my promised "Spanish Current Music" thread and realize that it will be long (though connected with a narrated history), I will break it up into bits, here goes #1:

In the last 20 years or so in Spain has developed a very interesting Rock/Pop/R+B/Fink scene that does not only produce very dancable music, but also impresses with great artists, perfectly poem-like lyrics and have nothing to do with any "Castings", those are genuines.

As I now do not want to go into detials yet, check out this (Brasilian!) guy by the name of Youssou N' Dour (better known by his artist name: Carlhinos Brown), who set a trend (that influenced and joined with some earlier others that I am going to talk abut in another post), and produced a very rocky, funky and disco dancable sound in the mid ´90s, which many bands in Spain today (partially) copy.

I will present the same song in three takes, first the studio version (from 1997), which, after listening into the first minute will not fined really revealling. The reason: Carlhinos Brown works live magic, this is where the fun is. Accordingly, I will post as 2nd vid the one when the song was first presented, at the "Heineken Concerts", 1995, so you can see how much more "drive" (drummer beating early, in this case even pushed by Carlhinos Brown´s guitar) the piece has. Last, what happens in the audience, from a short 1 min clip from a Barcelona concert of Carlhinos Brown... Enjoy! (you may safely turn the volume up a bit).

We here in Palma de Mallorca also had a good week:

- "El Canto del Loco" last week (one of my favorite Modern Spanish Rock Bands, well known all through Spain and one of the three top bands), with 15 Euros almost free for 8k ppl at the parking lot of Real Mallorca Fubol Club Stadium (Son Moix), turn volume well up:

While I havent started my thread on Modern Spanish Rock yet, here one of my themes and takes: The protagonists are all uniting what I have so often in this thread pleaded for

(I am all for the lyrics all the time, and for a good solo, or a good arrangement, or all of those; additionally they had to be worth to save money to see them live in concert...) has such stuff as (they all fit the mentioned categories)

: Excellent musicians, excellent lyrics (even as stand-by-themselves poems they are valid), and perfect arrangements. Missing the bad-ass solos, but those we have in other bands here...

Upcoming next weekends concert (and currently listening):

"Ojos de Brujo"... (Eyes of the Wizard)  

Again, you will have to wait for my in-depth dissection of modern Spanish Rock/Pop, but here another appetizer (and you can already memorize the name of the protagonists of this band "La Marina" and "La Susi", as they will appear various times and at different ages in my thread, the latter is one of the key figures in Spanish current music):

This is a straightforward Flamenco band (and no, they do not the Northern European "cleaned" versions of groups like "Gypsy Kings"  , but the real thing), the modern version (the only folk music that has evolved and is less than dead, in Europe), they carry you away. It is a a nine-ppl band from Barcelona, who describe their style as "jipjop flamenkillo" (hip-hop with a little flamenco). They sold over 100,000 copies of their self-produced Barí album, and hav received several awards, among these the BBC Radio 3 World Music Award for Europe in 2004 (having also been nominated in 2003) and the Latin Grammy 2008.

They have no label backing, they made their own -  "La Fábrica de Colores" -  to get complete artistic freedom for their album "Barí", dodging the pressure they received from their record company Edel Records for their debut album "Vengue".
