And he did even Flamenco: My favorite piece of his, concieved (by Bill Evans, who brought all those guys together) and performed when I was just a toddler. From the "Kind of Blue" Session 1959, Miles Davis performing "Flamenco Sketches".

Celestial, imprescindible inbetween the imprescendible tunes of Jazz, aphrodiasic, inspired as can be... The most sold disc not only of Miles Davis but in the total history of Jazz, one of the best pieces that ever have been recorded from my POV, if there ever was a work to initiate the non-initiated to the fascination and the subtleties of Jazz then it was probably this one:

Miles Davis - Flamenco Sketches

Miles Davis (tp) , Julian Cannonball Adderley (as) , John Coltrane (ts) , Bill Evans (p) , Paul Chambers (b) , Jimmy Cobb (ds)

Enjoy (or not),

George Micheal is currently in hospital with pneumonia and his condition is bad

http://www.georgemichael.com/

http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/Entertainment/20111128/george-michael-bed-111128/

Quote
George Michael is being kept on a special hospital bed which has "probably saved his life" in his battle against pneumonia.

The "Careless Whisper" singer is being cared for on the bed designed for critically-ill lung patients, in the intensive care room of the AKH Hospital in Vienna, Austria.

Dr. Carol Cooper told The Sun newspaper: "The bed has probably saved his life so far. But he is far from out of the woods yet."

Fans and family are worried as it was claimed last night the star has developed Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome -- a lung condition often caused by pneumonia, which stops oxygen getting into the blood, and is potentially fatal.

George is strapped into the Triadyne Proventa "kinetic therapy" bed, designed for people in acute respiratory distress who cannot move, and it constantly tilts from side to side up to 40 degrees, to relieve pressure on his lungs.

Dr. Cooper added: "These beds are lifesavers and exceptionally expensive, even to use.

"With the lungs not functioning well, the heart has to pump harder to shift the blood around the body, which would make it harder to survive. This bed tries to get the lungs functioning as best they can.

"The movement helps shift secretions inside the lung to make sure they don't collect and make you worse. But if he is still being cared for like this, he is very seriously ill.

"He is in a critical condition, which means he could die. We still don't know why pneumonia affects some people more than others. But if you are middle-aged, and maybe with other problems such as with your immune system, your outlook is not so good."

Survivors of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome may suffer memory loss or other mental issues during their recovery because of the lack of oxygen to the brain. It can also be accompanied other organ failure, such as the kidney or liver.

He is thought to be under the surveillance of a kidney specialist and on a special breathing machine.

His rumoured boyfriend, Fadi Fawaz, 38, said Sunday: "George is doing well and is in good spirits -- getting stronger all the time."

The singer was rushed to hospital last week and on Friday cancelled the rest of his current "Symphonica" tour.

Never rated him as a "real" musician (as he lived more off the band and BG singers, the sax makes this song e.g.) but there are some few songs that really are evergreens and imprintend in my musical soul for having accompanied me through various (mainly nigh time) adventures, the latter being one of them: Easily can I imagine myself in a concert singing along like the audience in "Careles Whisper" (not that you ever would encounter me in a concert of his).

Hope he gets well, as of lately all my musical stars keep dying like flies around me, I am already starting to feel bad myself.

the older he gets the better he becomes (seems he finally got his train back on the rails)... I was impressed by his 'Queen' performance as an example... (long time ago.....)

Queen - 'Somebody To Love' (Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert)

Queen - 'These Are The Days Of Our Lives' George Micheal & Lisa Stansfield

I find that George's performance of those Queen songs is better than all those others who tried to copycat Freddie's voice and performance. GM sung those songs but remained himself.

A song I restumbled over tonight while I was looking for another one by the same artist: Chris de Burgh.

Had kind of forgotten about the man, the song and about a lot of great stuff he produced over the years (and "Lady in Red", while probably his best known, does not rank with my best of him).

Anyway, currently listening to the old "Borderline" song:

Quote
I'm standing in the station,
I am waiting for a train,
To take me to the border,
And my loved one far away,
I watched a bunch of soldiers heading for the war,
I could hardly even bear to see them go;

Rolling through the countryside,
Tears are in my eyes,
We're coming to the borderline,
I'm ready with my lies,
And in the early morning rain, I see her there,
And I know I'll have to say goodbye again...

And it's breaking my heart, I know what I must do,
I hear my country call me, but I want to be with you,
I'm taking my side, one of us will lose,
Don't let go, I want to know,
That you will wait for me until the day,
There's no borderline, no borderline...

Walking past the border guards,
Reaching for her hand,
Showing no emotion,
I want to break into a run,
But these are only boys, and I will never know,
How men can see the wisdom in a war...

And it's breaking my heart, I know what I must do,
I hear my country call me, but I want to be with you,
I'm taking my side, one of us will lose,
Don't let go, I want to know,
That you will wait for me until the day,
There's no borderline, no borderline,
No borderline, no borderline...

Enjoy, or not,

Currently playing... a little video composed out of facebook type profile pictures and amateur video snippets, underlaid with 4 songs (of none of which I would know the artist).

I stumbled over this little gem when I searched youtube about a very common Spanish phrase that I explained in a recent email conversation about life, four days ago, "Life are two days, and [on] one of them [it] is raining": "La vida son dos dias y uno esta lloviendo". The phrase is used to either express how short life is and that you better make full use of your little time or when losing a friend, a family member or someone else close to you, then accompanied by a fatalistic shrug of the shoulders.

As I lost one of my best friends about 2 month ago (I mentioned him here a year ago and yes, he finally passed away on NOV 2, 2011 when we all thought he had overcome the worst from last Christmas, I paid tribute on another forum), so the title had me intrigued, and when I opened the video (while the title is in Spanish the songs are mostly in English) and looked at these pictures of people I did not know I saw something very much deeper in it, especially as it starts (in Spanish) with the words:

Quote
Never do we appreciate the value of a friendship with someone until our friend goes away.

But sometimes it is necessary that he would go, so that we get reminded about [understand] the true values.

About friendship...

(in Spanish: "Nunca llegamos a valorar la amistad de alguien, hasta que nuestro amigo se va.

Pero a vezes hace falta que se vaya para que nos demos quenta del valor real.

De la amistad...")

Now, we dont know whom those pictures show, what happened to them, or else (pure speculation: A young couple of a motorist club? Perished?), but exactly this not knowing whom it deals with and the pix´s everyday character - we all have those in our archives - give them a very general appeal about all life and friendship stands for, turns them - accompanied by the beautiful songs - into somthing transcendental, into a symbol for what we all share: Friendship and borrowed time.

I listened to the vid several times this day, and, look how things co-incide: The next morning and the day after I lost two more friends, this time not human: On Friday I had to put my cat "Sombrero" down to avoid more suffering, and yesterday my ex wife phoned me telling that our dog "Esquid" - incidentally the best friend and "father" of Sombrero, they never separated when both were at home - had to be put down, some sad Christmas for both of us (both animals had acommpanied us over 11 and 13 years respectively, Stoffel got to know them personally). A true friendship - and over the species barrier ! - , so close that even at a 30 km distance death would hit them just a day apart...

Suddenly the video made even more sense, listening to it the day before seemed like a premonition to me that I had not understood then (I had my affection related more to Migui). I have been listening to it various times over the last days, and it still affects me in its simple beauty, a gem, and I dont know why it only has 200 visits on youtube...

Here is to "My two XOs", Esquid and Sombrero, and how they will live on in my memory, one made for the other...

Life are two days, and [on] one of them [it] is raining...!

Enjoy!

Recently I heard the song White bird, couldnt find the group at first but it sounded a bit like Jefferson Airplane, the singer on the record had about the same voice as Grace Slick.
So I did a search.....and I found the group.Its from the late 60's named : Its a Beautifull day.

Its a beautiful day white bird

I also found another song of them Bombay, listen to that song and see if you know who stole that melody some years later Smiley

Sweet Child in Time, of course (by a band called "Deep Purple", for the youngsters here), and John Lord always has recognized the origin.

In total "Its a Beautiful Day" has been one of the most underrated (by history) bands ever, they did great stuff ... and were forgotten.

What an untimely death hit this not only great (rated best female singer in 1968 in the US) but also beautiful lady, Pattie Santos, I was heartbroken when I got the news in 1989 (as any teenager I of course was unrecoverably in love with her, and as all unrecoverable loves, it lingered...):

And, while today it just qualifies as music for the elevator of MacDonalds, they were way ahead of their times:

It's A Beautiful Day - Hot Summer Day

Thanks for stirring memories, Stoffel!

Idea triggered at another forum from some "hippie" bashing has me revisit my (musically) hard side, with all our highest holiday today, three magic kings and such... Jesus is the true Last Hippie Standing, and NOFX his prophets (?).

Reminded me of a joke:

Jesus and The Holy Ghost, super bored on their cloud:
HG: "You bored?"
JC: "You bet!"
HG: "What about a bit of vacations?"
JC: "Great idea, haven´t had any the last 2.000 yrs..!"
HG: "OK, done deal, where we go, Jerusalem?"
JC: "God, no, only got bad memories of that fleck, not very hospitable folks, they nailed me to a tree there once, can you imagine?!"
HG: "OK, OK, what about Rome, then?"
JC: "Fantastic idea, now thats a place I have never visited before!"

Quote
Jesus Christ will resurrect
He's got his BMI royalty to collect
He's not the white fragile hippie
He looks and acts more like an indignant ICE-T
Jesus Christ is coming back
He wants to kick Mel Gibson's ass
Superstar, The Passion of
He wants his money, not your love

He's been kickin' 2000 years
He's fixed a lot of sports
and drank a million beers
Some ecstasy, a thin white line
He says designer drugs beat
the hell out of wine
Jesus Christ on vacation
Spreading mass sacreligion

"Sex and drugs, we abstain"
He thinks: "Christians are insane
They don't know love,
they know fear and moral hauteur
Scare tactics I never taught.."

better get rose colored shades,
Cuz what you see is what you get"

Good stuff!  iconclap

Me, I am (for Spanish Class) rerunning my this years St. Valentine song for you know who, really hit home with me, could not say it better (and probably vice versa)...

Its by the Mexican singer Julieta Venegas, she has a way of making all songs seem lightheartedly performed that I adore, "Limón y Sal" (Lemon and Salt):

Quote
Tengo que confesar que a veces,I have to confess that sometimes
no me gusta tu forma de ser...I don´t like the way you are...
luego te me desapareceslater you suddenly vanish
y no entiendo muy bien por qué?     and I don´t understand very well why?

No dices nada románticoYou don´t say anything romantic
cuando llega el atardecer, when the sundown comes,
te pones de un humor extraño     you get into a strange mood
con cada luna llena al mes.with every month´s full moon.

Pero todo lo demásBut everything else
le gana lo bueno que me dasbeats this with the good stuff you give me
solo con tenerte cerca,Just having you close by
siento que vuelvo a empezar.     makes me feel like starting anew.

(Chorus)
Yo te quiero con limón y sal,I love you with lemon and with salt
yo te quiero tal y como estasI love you exactly how you are
no hace falta cambiarte nada...     its not necessary you change anything
Yo te quiero si vienes o si vas,I love you when you come or when you go
si subes y bajas y no estasif you are upbeat or downbeat or not
seguro de lo que sientes.sure of what you are feeling.

Tengo que confesarte ahora,     Now I have to confess
nunca creí en la felicidad...that I never believed in happiness...
a veces algo se le parecesometimes something appears like it
pero es pura casualidad.but that is pure chance

Luego me vengo a encontrar,Later I come to look
con tus ojos y me dan algo más,     into your eyes and they give me something more
solo con tenerte cerca,Just having you close by
siento que vuelvo a empezar.makes me feel like starting anew.

Chorus (x2)

Solo con tenerte cerca,Just having you close by
siento que vuelvo a empezar.     makes me feel like starting anew.

Limon y Sal - Julieta Venegas (Letra)

Enjoy!

U2 - Tomorrow

U2 October

Quote
Tomorrow
Won't you come back tomorrow
Won't you come back tomorrow
Won't you come back tomorrow
Can I sleep tonight

Outside
Somebody's outside
Somebody's knocking at the door
There's a black car parked
At the side of the road
Don't go to the door
Don't go to the door

I'm going out
I'm going outside mother
I'm going out there

Won't you be back tomorrow
Won't you be back tomorrow
Will you be back tomorrow

Who broke the window
Who broke down the door
Who tore the curtain
And who was He for
Who healed the wounds
Who heals the scars
Open the door
Open the door

Won't you come back tomorrow
Won't you be back tomorrow
Will you be back tomorrow
Can I sleep tonight

Cause I want you...I...I want you...
I really...I...I want...I...I...
I want you to be back tomorrow
I want you to be back tomorrow
Will you be back tomorrow

Won't you be back tomorrow
Won't you be back tomorrow
Will you be back tomorrow
Open up, open up
To the lamb of God
To the love of he who made
The blind to see
He's coming back
He's coming back
I believe it
Jesus coming

I'm gonna be there
I'm gonna be there mother
I'm gonna be there mother
I'm going out there
And you're gonna be there...

Quote
October
And the trees are stripped bare
Of all they wear
What do I care

October
And Kingdoms rise
And Kingdoms fall
But you go on...

...and on...
