While not in the US, THIS TAKES PLACE *TODAY*, in a Central European Country, Spain. Basic citizens rights disabled, "every Spaniard has the obligation to work" (Artículo 35: 1. Todos los españoles tienen el deber de trabajar...) most of us would like to but cannot follow the order, because THERE IS NO WORK... Others do, reluctantly, as they dont get paid, forced at gun point to do stuff... (all airports and ATC are under military control ATM, one soldier behind each controller 24/7 with a gun aimed: Controllers have -under the State of Alarm- been mobilized and now are mil personnell).

THIS IS NO JOKE!

Still, because ef envy, 71% of the Spaniards support the measure (probably not understanding it affects them all is my guess), an end is not in sight...

Disgrace in the name of a "democractic" government: Martial Law first time ever invoked after end of Franco Dictatorship (where it was the standard layout), invoked by decrete for 15 days on DEC 4, then prolonged indefinitely by parliament with the votes of our Socialist govereing party against the abstenation of all others...

Today we passed DAY 34 under Martial Law (Stage 1: "Stage of Alarm", unconstitutional as it in theory only applies for a war - "To combat material shortage in the face of an External Threat" - scenario), a disgrace worthwile for any dictatorship, Stalinism for us, and I am twisting and cringing as a Socialist myself to call for voting them out now:

PARIS - Martial Law Music Video

Our vicepresident (and Minister of Interior), Mr. Rubalcaba, trying to explain the unexplainable (sorry, not much music in this one, the faces of all our involved ministers tell the story all by itself), that the ATC folks now "...are officially mobilized under the "State of Alarm" and henceforth have to respond to the military penal code..." (= get shot if they refuse to seperate airplanes or try and simulate they get ill):

ESTADO DE ALARMA ILEGAL

For a different sound layout:

What about some relaxing (pathetic! some of you might say?) piano:

La Valse d'Amelie

Enjoy as I did,

OK, tuned into piano through the last post, and within the limits youtube puts up to us (cannot really give you what I want until they allow at least min 30 mins of uninterrupted music vids, live with what I can put up within the 10 mins limit), what about this maniac (I checked: Though I thought differently he still is alive, by now over 60) musician who does the most submersive piano sound ever?

Check it out and tell me you dont like it: Mr. Keith Jarrett!

Born on my birthday, he has had a career everybody my age will know, but we havent heard anything of him lately (i.e. the last 10 yrs):

Quote
Keith Jarrett (born May 8, 1945, in Allentown, Pennsylvania) is an American pianist/composer who has performed in both jazz and classical music.

Jarrett started his career with Art Blakey, moving on to play with Charles Lloyd and Miles Davis. Since the early 1970s he has enjoyed a great deal of success in both jazz and classical music, as a group leader and a solo performer. His improvisations draw not only from the traditions of jazz, but from other genres as well, especially Western classical music, gospel, blues, and ethnic folk music.

In 2003, Jarrett received the Polar Music Prize, the first (and to this day only) recipient not to share the prize with a co-recipient, and in 2004 he received the Léonie Sonning Music Prize.

In 2008, he was inducted into the Down Beat Hall of Fame by the Down Beat 73rd Annual Jazz Readers' Poll.

Keith Jarrett Solo Concert

So, once more, almost painfully beautyful, to an excellent vid ("Köln Concert" goes 90 minutes, just one little snippet here out of context):

Keith Jarrett - Live (Köln Konzert) Memories of tomorrow

Enjoy, (and succumb? I am listening to it and find it extremely hard to hold back the tears...: The intensity! The art! The creativity!...)

One genious!  champ

Written by Yann Tiersen for the film.

Re Bilitis: Hamilton was once one of my favorites.

Yes, one of the well known Spanish Classic Guitarreros. Pity he died in the late 90s, has been missed ever since.

One of his successors in classical guitar music (probably the most well known in Spain atm: Robert Rodrigo) has another side, also fascinating, as a hobby he does excellent Rock and Heavy, of course w/o plectrum (if you think you see one, its just his thumb nail)..., for a special comrade of mine that we miss big time here:

Robert Rodrigo, La Primera, 1 -2 - 2008, Bilbo Rock

ROBERT RODRIGO - FURY OF THE UNIVERSE

Guitar fans enjoy, even if its not the best sound quality!

This for Koen:

I have not being contesting totally seriously to your post of the Aranjuez Concert, and I am currently on the phone having a very angry ex wife "counting me down the 40" for my reply (and, as almost always really, she is right once more).

The piece as such is well known, probably the most (the Adiagio, I am refering to) interpreted Spanisch classical piece world wide, but, as Joana points out, the version you are hearing (as everything here in Spain is politics) is the version of the "Franco" times early 70s (wont go into detail here as the involved are dead, but she is right).

There exists a version that certainly is not Franco, and it is played by probably the best guitar player Spain currently has. Koen, lets see whether you like it (its a different interpretaion, but exactly the same partiture, note by note), the meaning is different:

Concierto de Aranjuez, part II, guitar Paco de Lucia

this is my personal review ofcourse... it seems slower, intens and more dramatic, more from the heart altough I must admit that I'm more into the flute (sry, don't know the correct name) than the guitar

I just saw a program about vocal artists in general (focusing on Al Jarreau) and it reminded me of a singer that is widely underestimated:

I want to take a moment and remind you of a Bobby McFerrin, a singer we all instantly will connect with a piece nobody can stand anymore after having heard it 200 times...

Truth is, that he - a bit like Jarreau - is a serious Jazzer and Vocal Artist (mainly bases this art on his "head voice" soprano and breast slapping "human beatbox" style) and whenever I heard him in various combos over the year I was delighted, and I am looking forward to see him in Palma next week during our festivities (yes, for us holidays are not over yet: Since Thursday festivities of St. Anthony, and then all next week Palma will shut down for St. Sebastian, its saint).

Time to officially save the reputation of this man on our thread, and as we are proud here to present always something a "bit different", some examples (and of course my immortal hate piece "Dont Worry" for the main stream lovers  Brede lach)

First, with an Al Jarreau/John Coltrane classic, true "Vocal Art" in the sense it is meant:

Bobby McFerrin - My Favorite Things

This one then explains the connection Bach-First Prelude-Ave Maria better than my earlier post about the theme:

Bobby McFerrin - Ave Maria

Here, at Montreal Jazz Festival with Jorane Riopel on her cello, a very beautiful and different piece from the Jazz scene:

Bobby McFerrin & Jorane - Montreal Jazz Festival

And, as gimmick as announced, the piece I cannot stand for my life, even if I dont have cash, nor style, nor gal:

Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry Be Happy

Enjoy!

A nice song I really like, even if its old: Randy Newman´s "Short People"

Quote
Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason
To live

They got little hands
Little eyes
They walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet

Well, I don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
`Round here

Short people are just the same
As you and I
(A fool such as I)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(It's a wonderful world)

Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
To love

They got little baby legs
That stand so low
You got to pick em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin' peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time
Well, I don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
'Round here

Randy Newman - Short People

Its a wonderful world!

With the speed topics are getting moved, I have to post something here just to keep it on the "Recent Posts" list...  Knipoog

Interesting experiment, from various angles:

The song is the theme to "Jurassic Park", BUT slowed down 100x (it claims 1000% - which is ridiculous all by itself, as a claim: 100% is the max existing - , but 100x is what it is). Produced like this it sounds absolutely fascinating for a great chill out, and it takes 54 minutes to listen to it.

This is the other angle: Someone (AFAIK this should not be possible) managed somehow to post a 54 minutes vid to youtube. Something TA has to investigate, and big time, new horizons are opened if we learn the trick.

Enjoy!
