Welcome to War and Tactics!    War and Tactics Forum is currently undergoing some modifications that might disable features you are used to. This is unabvoidable as we have to update the forum engine to a new structure that is incompatible with many of the features we had used so far. The good news: WaT will be more secure and stable, and most of the features we uninstalled will be a natural part of the new structure anyway. For the rest we will be looking for solutions. In their infinite beuracratic wisdom, this municipality has decided that this man's home is forfeit since he didnt pay his $75 fire protection fee. Funny thing is, if some Italian American thugs (Mafia) come to your store/shop offering protection, they could be charged with extortion.

There are a small number of Americans, most notably, Tea Party members, that would like to see all American Govt shrunk down to a size where this type of policy would be the norm. During this next election, we shall see just how much power they can project. If they are strong enough, you can expect the Republican party to turn in this direction, since they are allied with the 'Tea Baggers' as I call them. The only part of Govt they want to see remain large is the defense dept., as they wish to still retain their pride as a world power. These 'Freedom Loving' patriots also want more Govt involvement in our minds and bedrooms, i.e; ant-Gay, anti-abortion, anti-drug  policies.

In short, calling America civilized might be a stretch in the near future.

having to pay for protection from the fire department?

I've seen documentaries about the hundreds thousands of people in the US who can't afford a doctor or clinic...

how is that all possible? we see lots of big plans Obama has but what about the 'needs' as medicine, doctor, food and drinks and more?

America is a country, originally founded by Christian religions fleeing their problems in Europe. Most of those religions were that of the Protestant nature, where it is  believed, that it was morally up to the individual to take care of themselves. While they had some socialistic traits, they are a minor aspect of their beliefs. Over the years the Protestant ethics became the driving force behind the social mores of my country. The free enterprise, capitalistic nature of my country, comes from these beginnings. The fact that we are so resistant to taking care of those in need, also stems from these roots. And though we are a christian nation because of our heritage, I see little resemblence to that which Jesus taught. However, I was raised as a Catholic, which many Americans consider to be heretics, and therefore see that capitalism as we practice it here, has some shortcomings.

Capitalism is not very friendly to those who cannot succeed within its environment. The fact that capitalism by its very nature is cutthroat, is apparent in the number of needy people in the richest nation on the planet. The fact that we are having an argument over whether to give tax breaks to those who have not truly suffered under our current economic crisis, gives proof to the nature of our capitalistic dilemma. The fact that we are seeing a schism in America because of the current administrations socialistic endeavours, provides insight to our internal conflict.

As for Obama's plans, he is trying to deal with some of these shortcomings, but has an obstructionist political entity standing in and blocking his way at every step. It is the Republican Party, the party of big business, which is the heart of our capitalistic system. At every turn, they favor business over individuals. For proof of this, one need only look to our Republican appointed, Right leaning Supreme Court, and their recent , and absurd ruling that a corproration has the same rights as an individual according to the Constitution.

Though I think I live in one of the great nations upon this planet, I recognise we have many flaws that have yet to be addressed.

stop ranting is not the same as telling someone to shut up, I'm interested in reading ALL members their opinion(s).
and certainly not bringing a personal discussion in the open.
