Title: Tiger 812 nickname 'Tiki'

Harro about his grandfather Unthersturmfuhrer Steinhofen commander of Tiger 1 tank "Tiki"

Well...ok a few words about my grandfather.

He joined the LAH in 1940 as a soldier in the 13th company,he saw action at the balkan, Greece, invasion of France and Russia.
He was a melder(dont know the right english word), a sniper and also a medic!!
He was promoted to Rttf. and received EK2,EK1, wound bage in black, combat clasp in silver!
After close combat on christmas 41, he was heavily wounded in his upper leg (bayonet-stab).
In 1942 he was transfered to the "3rd co./Pz.Reg.DR" based in Wilflecken, where the new Pz.Reg. was built.
There he got promoted to Unterscharfuhrer.
He received the spanish bravery medal 3rd class for his action at the Ladoga-sea!
After the loss of kharkov in early 1943, he made an "Führerbefehlsverweigerung" and therefor he was demoted!
He lost his rank and also all of his awards!!!!!!
(With much luck!!) And also an award-stop!!!!!!!!!!!!
After that he was promoted a second time to Strm,Rttf. and finally Uscha. in 1 1/2 month later!
He received the "Gefrierfleischorden" the east-medal!

Kursk

He saw action at Kursk and the tankbattle of Kolomak (79 knocked out T34´s and 1 KV1!!!!)
He also participated in the Russian springoffensive in 1944 in the Kampfgruppe Das Reich!

Normandy 1944, D-Day

Avranches, Coutances, Falaise-Gap etc.
In 1944 he was promoted to OScha.
He also was awarded a second time with the EK2, Pzkmpfabz. in Silver, woundbage in Silver

Battle of the Bulge (Grandmenil etc.)

Operation Spring Awaking april 1945.

A few days before the end he received his last promotion to Hscha.,
but it was never registered!
Finally he surrendered at Linz an der Traun (austria)

I have an authentic WW2 battlefield photo of the TIKI 812. The tank commander is in the hatch doing the Heil Hitler salute

very cool photo. I have a large collection of WW2 German photos
