Welcome to War and Tactics!    War and Tactics Forum is currently undergoing some modifications that might disable features you are used to. This is unabvoidable as we have to update the forum engine to a new structure that is incompatible with many of the features we had used so far. The good news: WaT will be more secure and stable, and most of the features we uninstalled will be a natural part of the new structure anyway. For the rest we will be looking for solutions. I am looking at picking up books by Niklas Zetterling, anyone tell me whether they are worthwhile or not?
The books are:
- Normandy 1944: German Military Organization, Combat Power and Organizational Effectiveness
- Kursk 1943: A Statistical Analysis (Soviet (Russian) Study of War)
- KORSUN POCKET: The Encirclement and Breakout of a German Army in the East, 1944
- BISMARCK: The Final Days of Germany's Greatest Battleship
- TIRPITZ: The Life and Death of Germany's Last Super Battleship

I figure I should pick up the whole bunch in one shot if they are any good.

Well that is something, what I am looking for is whether they are well written by someone that has researched the subject as opposed to something thrown together by someone that has watched the history channel too often for their own good.

Read the reviews by R. A Forczyk. He's a military officer I believe, and from what I've seen, has been spot on with his reviews of books I have; that I can compare against.

Good Hunting.

Well I ordered the lot, at the very worst they will become expensive paper weights.

I have some of those. Luckily not many. I have more books that are now worth considerably more than I paid for them than I do books that now have the value of a paperweight.

Good Hunting.

Well even if they do suck they can't be any more boring that Antony Beevors - Crete, there is a book I just can't finish.

I just got his book on the Germans at Normandy. If the rest of them are of the same quality I'd say you got a really good deal. His book on The Germans at Normandy has really good information in it.

Good Hunting.

1) Panzer Operations: The Eastern Front Memoir of General Raus 1941-1945
2) The Panzer Legions: A guide to the German Army Tank Divisions of World War 2 and their Commanders.

I have been buying books lately as well.

In the past 3 months I've gotten:

Panzer Aces III by Franz Kurowski
Panzer Grenadier Aces by Franz Kurowski
The Face of Courage by Florian Berger
Hitler's Scientists by John Cornwell
The Americans at Normandy by John C. McManus
If You Survive by  George Wilson
Viking Panzers by Ewald Klapdor
Demolishing the Myth by Valeriy Zamulin
And No Birds Sang by Farley Mowat
Iron Knights by Gordon Blaker
The Germans in Normandy by Richard Hargreaves
Normandy 1944: German Military Organization, Combat Power and Organizational Effectiveness by Niklas Zetterling
Knight's Cross Panzers by Hans Schaufler
Zitadelle: The German Offensive Against the Kursk Salient 4-17 July 1943 by Mark Healy
Combat History of German Tiger Tank Battalion 503 in World War II by Franz-Wilhelm Lochmann, Alfred Rubbel and Richard Freiherr von Rosen
Battleground Prussian by Prit Buttar

So, I can understand being a bit behind on your reading.

Good Hunting.

I have been meaning to read the Panzer Aces series, I have them but never got around to reading them.

I have also been looking at re-purchasing some of these books in Kindle format to see how they stack up, my book collection is starting to consume a lot of room so electronic format may be an option especially since I travel a lot.
