Welcome to War and Tactics!    War and Tactics Forum is currently undergoing some modifications that might disable features you are used to. This is unabvoidable as we have to update the forum engine to a new structure that is incompatible with many of the features we had used so far. The good news: WaT will be more secure and stable, and most of the features we uninstalled will be a natural part of the new structure anyway. For the rest we will be looking for solutions. Postcard image of British artillery (AA? are those searchlights protrayed connected to the guns?)
This is an interesting image in and of itself for the wartime artwork.  Also interesting on this particular piece is the stamp "Specimen of British War Literature Supplied for Record Purposes Only"--this is the only item I have with this stamp on it; I wonder to whom this card was supplied and for what purpose (a library perhaps?)

The final bit of interesting text is found on the back:

The caption on the back is completely in Arabic (I assume it's from Egypt and that's why I've labelled this North Africa).  Can anyone translate this? (there may be a '6' and two '0's in the bottom line at right.)

I have asked some forums out there, and they come up with (Thanks to "be.010" and "Josh_" respectively from "Word Reference Forums": http://forum.wordreference.com/showthread.php?p=7767457&posted=1#post7767457):

Quote
A British anti-aircraft gun battery firing. British anti-aircraft guns destroyed more than 600 German raiding aircraft over Britain.

Oh, and the search lights were seperately operated.

Hope this helps,

Wow, Rattler, that's a great forum for this kind of help, very nice folks there it seems.  Thank you!

So, now that we know it's simply stating that the Brits shot down 600 planes planes over Britain, that weakens my belief that it's and Egyptian postcard; could be anywhere the British were trying to impress potential Arabic-speaking allies, not necessarily in their own colonies.  Hmm.

(I learned how to find and read numbers from collecting paper money and stamps; I have it down pat.  whistle)

At a guess I would say that it is probably a standard post card picked up in service canteen, which means that it is entirely possible the sender sent it from North Africa.
I have a large number of post cards sent from North Africa (complete with Arabic writing) which were originally printed in New Zealand and issued to NZEF personnel while in that theatre of operations.
