Title: How-To ...insert a descriptive link into a post
Post by: TechAdmin on 13 September 2009, 08:09:22
Huh? What is a descriptive link?

A "descriptive link", in difference to a normal or "crude" link is a word or a phrase in plain text that hides the URL the link relates to.

Example:

A crude link
would look something like that, in this case it is the written URL of one article Danger room: http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2009/09/pentagon-wants-space-junk-cleaner/ (http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2009/09/pentagon-wants-space-junk-cleaner/)

The same article, by descriptive link, could look like that: Wired Article about Space Debris (http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2009/09/pentagon-wants-space-junk-cleaner/)

How-to insert a descriptive link into a post

A descriptive link is done via BBCode[/url, you add the code to your post and replace the place holders with your data.

Here the code, you can copy and paste it to use in your posts:

 (http://www.warandtactics.com/smf/help/?page=post#bbcref)
Code:
[url=http://somesite/]descriptive link[/url]

It is quite self explanatory how to use it: Replace "somesite" with your URL, and replace "descriptive link" with your text you want linked to your URL. Done

Hope that helps,
