Title: Playtest: 19th pz attacks Glowaczow Eastern front 1944
Post by: stoffel on 6 September 2009, 12:48:30
This scenario is about 19 pz attacking Glowaczow in september 1944.

No briefing jet,

Here is the deal.
Germans,

Attack the village and set up defensive positions after capturing the town, prepare for a possible counterattack.

Russians,

Defend the city , recapture it in case the town will be occupied by the Germans.

damn...did your buttons got stuck when you bought units?  hihi

this is a giant one...but maybe I should try it....I love panzers...

are there German reinforcements? If so, wouldn't the attackers know what and when?
I can ofcourse look in the editor but not sure if that's allowed...

is it ok when I put some details on the map? (I am working on the map...NOT forces or such)
won't the german landmarks show also for the russian player?

yellow set-up zone...I deleted some yellow tiles at the Russian side of the river, bit too easy to put some panzers at that side of the river... hihi

LOL no :)

The yellow setup areas are there for a reason, up to the player to risk his panzers there :)
This is a raw map , the battle is not finished.
But any thing you do on it will save me work :)
I am more interested in test results first .

I'll test it, do you want those specific yellows back? I do think it's better/more realistic without them. I could place some yellows in 'woods' so that the player can choose to put infantry but without the possibility to put panzers across the river.

I'm busy with the map, I'll upload a new version and then I'm available as german player...KABOEM!

A player might want to place som e of his tanks there, I would not do it but I leave the choice to the players themselves.
Please send the map to me first before uploading it.

Yo Henk, Im about to start playtesting this one, but first a few questions...

1. Is it meant for one player or two?

2. Is single player possible for Allies?

3. Any testing been done yet?

That would be fine with me, however, I'd like to get the go ahead to your revamped file before we do, as I'd hate to go through all the trouble of setting up to find out...oops, a major glitch. So once Henk gives the OK, Im ready to start. Interogatively, Im still waiting on a turn from you (Koen) on the game we are playing...?

My buddies and I have a way to deal with potential lost turns...after you feel like a sufficient time has gone by and you have heard nothing from your opponent, we fire off what we call a 2nd shot. As we never know when the internet or the US govt intercepts/loses a turn, we just send another  and call it the 2nd shot. No offense taken and none given, just a way to keep the games rolling.

Hey! That is originally a Marlene Dietrich song from the ´30s ("Sag mir, wo die Blumen sind" will find it in youtube), but I ike it better from Hildegard Knef, a song I heard by my mother and cherished - and that influenced me to a point I guess - when I was just 5-6 or so:

Ja, Ich bin famliar....

Marlene Dietrich Sag mir wo die blumen sind (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3ET1b0ymZs#normal)

...but this is my favorite version by my favorite female singer...

Joan Baez - Sagt Mir Wo Die Blumen Sind (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRhHpTRuBrk#normal)

Well, there are more versions, and here why I think they are worthwile posting (w/o at all wanting to enter in a pissing contest):

While myself a great Joan Baez fan, for our generation I find she has not enough "morbidity" in her voice to transmit the soul of the song, the despair and the emptiness in the cycle (Marlene has, but in the WWII context).

For me, there needed to be a new background when I was young, WWII too far away in the past, and Vietnam just (almost) over, the folk version too soft for what I felt, Wolf Biermann and Nina Hagen from East Germany had great versions but they does not exist on youtube.

Then, in the ´80s, around the SS20 discussions, me just out of service over an issue, the song got resurrected in the "NDW" (Neue Deutsche Welle) surge, adapted to the times (in music and lyrics: "...der Präsident ist ausgeklinkt..." = "... the (US) President turned crazy...") by singers my age and with my experience and bkgnd and transmitting much more (for me) the stupidity in (and the resignation over) the neverending cycle both by attitude and voice, here just one example, by Wolf Maahn, 1982, the version that til today *affects* me most, still can wet my eyes as the others cannot:

Wolf Maahn - Sag mir wo die Blumen sind 1982 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msTpB_7KkJs#normal)

Watching the vid I really was wondering what safety measures the instructor had taken when the lady had to take the hands off the bar (as the fall was previsible), I can completely understand her hefty reaction, she might as well have come out paralyzed or even might have died.

Thats a very understated version Matt, but quite effective in transmitting the emotional content. Thanks for sharing!

my SS troops have now secured the rivercrossings and the 1st line of houses under an overwhelming smokecover

Jody's tank-reinforcements are now entering the battlezone together with this 122mm tanks who seem to be indestructable, my Panthers are doing fine altough they seem to have problems with the wet ground....damn....

good battle Henk, we can think of some modifications but it's more then a good start.... good job  iconclap

The destruction of the civilian infrastructure in this battle is ruthless in its execution, however the stalwart defenders shall yield no ground, even now local counterattacks have stymied the fascist drive in many parts of the battlefield. In short time we shall have the enemy retreating with their tails between their legs...

And the battle is pretty historical.
