I cant help but think, that if more pirates met the same fate, it would be a bit harder to recruit crews for their exploits.
I am convinced the answer for todays pirates is exactly the same as the one the worked in the 17th and 18th century, sink their ships and hang any survivors around the various ports that they are recruited in.
Interesting that they would use the Point Defense AK-630M gatling gun (which is likke the phalanx the point defense system versus Ha#rpoons or Exocets, even if it is much older) for that and only later switched to the MG.
Quite a waste of ammo from my POV (and you can see it spread over the water), but then who knows, maybe they needed to test it...
