Welcome to War and Tactics!    War and Tactics Forum is currently undergoing some modifications that might disable features you are used to. This is unabvoidable as we have to update the forum engine to a new structure that is incompatible with many of the features we had used so far. The good news: WaT will be more secure and stable, and most of the features we uninstalled will be a natural part of the new structure anyway. For the rest we will be looking for solutions. Huh?

I get this following your link:

Quote
Our cover image this week is powerful, shocking and disturbing. It is a portrait of Aisha, a shy 18-year-old Afghan woman who was sentenced by a Taliban commander to have her nose and ears cut off for fleeing her abusive in-laws. Aisha posed for the picture and says she wants the world to see the effect a Taliban resurgence would have on the women of Afghanistan, many of whom have flourished in the past few years. Her picture is accompanied by a powerful story by our own Aryn Baker on how Afghan women have embraced the freedoms that have come from the defeat of the Taliban — and how they fear a Taliban revival.

Jeez...that is just awful.  Poor girl.   Good question, what does happen to the everyday Afgan person if the troops all back home?

The connection:

The US and allies are fighting the good fight in Afghanistan.  How it's being fought is a different matter.
Guys like Wikileaks leaking the sort of information they did, the names of the informants, the places where they are, mission templates etc., hurts the war effort.
It is my hope that the US will finally learn how to fight insurgencies by modeling operations around principles learned in other successes (Malaya for instance).  But events like these certainly reduce the likelihood of that.  Just try getting someone to be an informant now.  And I certainly hope the ones who did help are safe.  Same with their relatives.

How would anyone here react if there was a wikileaks back in World War II and they leaked the plans for Operation Overlord just days before D-Day?  And what, no one cares about the people suffering under the Taliban's insanity.  But I'm sure most people here will jump in horror at anything involving Jews being killed in death camps.  Sure, they're kind of different, but I'd say cutting off the nose and the ears of a girl is pretty f*cking bad as well.  In some ways, worse than death.

A small update to this topic.
Recent reports claimed that the majority of the 1200 civilians who died in Afghanistan nearly 90% were killed as punishment by the Taliban.
The others died of actions by Nato, in most cases because they were caught between Nato and Taliban.
Very strange that such reports come up after we left Afghanistan, 2 months ago all these victims were caused by our military.......

Now the past two weeks two schools were attacked with poisonous gas because there were girls in that school and female teachers.
A school build by relatives from a KIA Dutch soldier was destroyed in a bombattack.

Bombattacks in pakistan killing scores of Pakistani.
All we do is make a fuss about  mistakes our soldiers make, mistakes that can happen in such wars.

Yeah right........... poor Taliban.
