Welcome to War and Tactics!    War and Tactics Forum is currently undergoing some modifications that might disable features you are used to. This is unabvoidable as we have to update the forum engine to a new structure that is incompatible with many of the features we had used so far. The good news: WaT will be more secure and stable, and most of the features we uninstalled will be a natural part of the new structure anyway. For the rest we will be looking for solutions. Koen,

If thats the case than make sure you bring someone else with you to look for details regarding the technical status of the house.
Often you only see the nice things because your view is troubled because you want to buy the house Knipoog
An objective third party can find those hidden disasters you might probably miss.

I know, we should always be careful but I'm not TOO excited...still everything under control

at the outside:
walls are fine, no cracks or such / roof is fine, no dips or such
we couldn't see anything negative, keeping in mind it's not a new house, neither were there renovations done the last 20 years but that's not a reason to not-buying it

we'll certainly have a look at the roof INSIDE, check the heating, hunt for moisture or leaks...

all we need is a solid building without leaks or such...the rest we'll do steadily...we'll have enough money left to do so...

I won't...last inside info....there are 3 children and they want 1.000.000 BEF/child, totalling 3.000.000 BEF and those people still rate 1€=40BEF (back then in 2000) so this means they expect 75.000€....
all this info comes from Ka's daughter who owns the pub....one of the children has been babbling to here...thank you!

we'll start bidding from 75.000€ and see where it ends  Cool

well, we visited the house and I wanna buy it

pros:
dry cellar
dry attic
3 bedrooms
heating in all rooms
role shutters on all windows
living room big enough
walls and floors mostly ok (some have minor moisture but nothing not fixable)

contras:
attic not isolated
kitchen to be rebuild
bathroom to be refreshed
WC to be installed in bathroom

before we can move into it we should:
buy it  Knipoog
do the kitchen and bathroom

other rooms etc are ok enough to start, we'll refresh them when it comes

they ask 115.000€, we offered 100.000€
there is 1 other guy interested, they need to agree between 3 children.

he promised to let us know ASAP, I told him we wouldn't wait forever.

we try to think of other things but for now it's all housetalk here...  Tong

Oh that sounds great,  Koen.  Good luck with it.  I hope you get it!  Do you have any pictures of it to show us?

It looks like Spring time is (finally) here.  The snow has gone.  I took a few photos the other day when we went for a walk.  Here are some of them:

Thanks,  I do enjoy living here.  And it's not too far a drive from the Capital city either.  Kind of ideal really.  I'm very lucky.

I'm attempting to grow a pumpkin patch this year, here is what it looks like now.  The seeds are planted,  hopefully I can keep the slugs away (this year).  Last year the slugs ate all the young pumpkins plants as they grew.  I know that FACman is a keen gardener.  I'd love to see what you garden is like this year.  There is mostly sand in that garden with some compost mixed in.

The Rhubarb grows regardless.  I never water it or maintain it. It has always been here, well ever since we moved in and every Spring time grows to over six feet tall.  amazing.

update house: they asked 115.000€, I offered 100.000€ / now they called and said they have an offer of 130.000€ / I told them to go F*** themselves (  Knipoog )

update caravan: caravan is cancelled / measures are too big, they'll never reach us with the truck where we live

update house building at the current location: cancelled / they called us and said: 97000€......oops, that's expensive...their reply: 97000€ excl TVA.....WTF?.....and without concrete at the bottom... go f.....well....you know by now...

so, new direction taken: http://www.blokhuttensite.nl/blokhutten/lugarde-aruba-750-x-1100-cm-68-mm.html?productNr=4100360

self-build: they deliver a package (big package to be honest) and we build it ourselves. Will take more time and work but I think it's the only option

Yes,  a very good alternative.  And you'll do it at the fraction of the price.

Jilly,

If it doesnt rain to much than a good way to overcome the snails is throwing some salt on the wooden edges Knipoog

Errrmmm... Tend to disagree:

The best way is to have a cage ready, with Fennel, get the snails, put them in and wait 3 months (hundreds of baby snails). Then get the biggies, cook them and have a nice evening, better than any French!

(As one snail is called "caracol" in Spanish, the cage is called "caracolera" - isn´t Spanish easy?? Smiley -)

The typical Caracolera the way I employ three of them, not automatic, water has to be sprayed every day:

The food that comes out, super delicious (nothing slimey, all muscle meat like a steak and with the same taste, really recommend to search for recepies on the net and try it):
