Title: Video Game Controversy Post by: Mad Russian on 19 April 2009, 14:28:33 Seems that a video game company, Konami, has decided to do a game on a recent battle in Iraq. The game is called Six Days in Fallujah.
Some veterans and families want it banned. Others, including some veterans are supporting the game. Check it out. MR Title: Re: Video Game Controversy Post by: bongotastic on 19 April 2009, 15:14:21 Mixed feelings, I like to look at wargame as another way to study history (and a fun one), regardless whether it is ancient history of history made today. A tactical shooter, no matter how tactical, will not "inform" about counter-insurgency and thus will miss the point of the last 7 years in Iraq. The informational argument smells off to me. I'm fine with gaming current conflict, as long as it is done respectfully and that once the scenario is over, you feel like you understand what is going on over there better. Chances are that you can't get this in a Xbox360 game. Trivializing Fallujah/Iraq by turning it into an action tactical shooter is certain to hurt some grieving American and Iraqi families.

If I look at the military itself, they dont have any problems with making (supporting)games. Even if they look about the fighting in Iraq/Afghanistan. What is CoD4 or VSB different or even cmsf from modern fighting in Mout areas like above named countries? Men with the real names of the real participants and even if you are still serving in Iraq?
Or if it was your brother, uncle, newphew? It's too close for a historical reenactment. Fictional or generalization is okay but not a historical one. Good Hunting. MR |
