no, but the first for the 2 of us together. currently we live in a wooden housie of 5m x 6m so the step is quite big

looooooooots of work though, it hasn't been renovated/modernized is 50 years... build in 1936....

no kitchen, no bathroom etc etc

but well build, no neighbours, green environment... it's a longterm project

LOL , yes he is  :D

and we have everything we need... hihi

but it's about time we DO what needs to be DONE... getting older means you need more comfort and our present housie is just too small and too cold....

we don't need a BIG house so the new one is perfect and it gives the misses the opportunity to care for her parents who are getting old

another plus is the ability to give our grandchildren a sleep-over/playhouse room...

sry to hear that, I guess that's what life is all about... living from one experience to another... some are bad, some are good.... we should cherish the good ones and learn from the bad ones

Completely missed that post, I am really sorry to hear that (for me, as a smoker, lung cancer is the enemy +1 and not much chance to get on top of him).

How does she take it? I guess that with those holidays this must be an especially cold shower, both for you as for her and hard to ignore...

... living from one experience to another... some are bad, some are good.... we should cherish the good ones and learn from the bad ones

Not much to learn from lung cancer, is there? Well;: Dopnt smoke, but that we know and wont comply.

I just hope that as the lady is most probably not a girl anymore it will be slow to grow and she can spend a lot more years with you and your family, Stoffel.

FWIW,

Rattler

No problem Matt,

We hear the results from the testing coming wednesday.
She was quite early because we urged her to see a doctor (loss of weight during a few weeks) so we hope its not to bad......

For us its the third x-mas in a row with bad news.
Wandas natural father died few days before x-mas, her stepfather died last year also around x-mas.

Koen is right, life goes on and you have to make the best of it, my mother is 71 but far to young to leave us alone rightnow :)

we're still pulling things down.....

Title: Re: K&K bought a house today
Post by: Koen on 2 February 2012, 19:38:47
tomorrow afternoon it's shopping day

saturday:
bathroomday... someone we know will continue working on the bathroom

K&K will work on floors etc

next week
electricity 'entry case' will be checked by the electricity supplier.... it's about to fall down from the wall... yep... 1936  hdbng
and the little house will get it's thermal and electricity checkover (needs to be done by an expert when you sell a home/house)

yes yes... or no...no.... the end is not near....

Title: Re: K&K bought a house today
Post by: Koen on 4 February 2012, 19:34:14
finally some 'constructing/building' instead of DEconstructing

started laying the bedroom floor, no fake wood but the real stuff... piece by piece.... hoping for the best  hihi (and afterwards cleaning and working on that floor)

after the floor we can start with the bedroom walls....

meanwhile the electricity works started slowly...

monday morning a guy from the electricity provider is coming to check our 'box'... it's almost falling out of the wall....

oh.... the small housie is scheduled for thursday to get its energycheck

yep.... life is a rollercoaster at the moment....

but with -14°C we now are reminded on how life is now in our wooden shed in the woods and where our future lays in our solid house with central heating etc.... quite a motivation :woohoo:

Title: Re: K&K bought a house today
Post by: Koen on 19 February 2012, 19:24:58
some news:

we're working on the electricity:
picture 1: installing new fusebox (currently we have 2 fuses  :o )
preparing a swift de-installation of the current installation
picture 2: putting 3 grounding pins in the ground

working on the watersupply: both cold and warm for kitchen and bathroom, kitchen is difficult to get too so that's not the easiest part! remember that there was NO kitchen NEITHER bathroom  :-\

the last untouched room has been pre-cleaned
picture 3: before
picture 4: not so promising!

more news soon!

Title: Re: K&K bought a house today
Post by: Koen on 26 February 2012, 20:16:48
sry, don't have the energy to download and post pics...

been digging a ditch for the toilets an shower outside and a 2nd ditch for the waterguys who are installing a new watercounter tomorrow morning...

drilling holes through the sidewall for toilets, shower and washing

Karine's working on cement and brick stuff

we're both on low batteries.... and tomorrow it's back to the 7-17 job....

at the moment we're focussing on 'warm water' - 'shower' - 'toilet' to make it possible to 'move' and start 'living' in the new house.......

Title: Re: K&K bought a house today
Post by: Koen on 27 February 2012, 19:16:24
old waterconnection has been disabled
new waterconnection connected outside and new connection made inside

this should lead to warm water this weekend.... I hope.... and maybe a working shower.... and a toilet

Title: Re: K&K bought a house today
Post by: Koen on 2 March 2012, 19:37:34
we DO have warm water  :D

we need to fix a small leak in the shower though.....

tomorrow (I'm sick but need to ignore it) I must fix/build the...pffffffffffffff.... 'flow away' of the water into the drainage on the street....

and we're working on the kitchen's electricity and water....

we need to get out of the cottage this month!

we can sleep
we can almost wash ourselves
we can almost almost use a toilet.... fight6

I'll NEVER do this again in my life....

and I'm doing overtime at the job.................  :drama:

Title: Re: K&K bought a house today
Post by: Koen on 4 March 2012, 19:58:28
the drainage is done: shower, 2 toilets, washing machine and more are now connected to the public drainage

this summer the city's replacing the street's drainage so changes will be made again

1 toilet is working now
the shower is giving us cold/warm water, we do need to install the entry door

got lighting in the workshop

and many other things have been done...

oh man.... we still need to pack everything in the housie and move everything including furniture....

strange period in our lives.... we're both really pushing our personal limits but having no option is what pushes us on....

Make sure you are around when they start working!
I had some pretty nasty experiences with these public workers and my drainage when I lived in Soest.
They sealed one of our pipes off, causing water from the dishes and the toilet to flood under our kitchen.
It took nearly 2 months to get rid of the smell after they fixed it ( which took them 6 months to find the problem)

Good Hunting.

I asked the provider what are the possibilities and they said 'EVERYTHING' but first I need to get the electricity done etc BEFORE I let them come install their stuff

:D the new electricity inside has been approved yesterday  :champ:

August 10th the electricity outside gets renewed, read 'from above-ground to underground' together with the fibrecable for TV/Internet
around the same time the doors and windows get replaced
and still around the same time they start breaking up the street to replace/install new watertubes for the 'dirty' water....

you see, we're making progress but still not finished.... I'm hoping that at the end of August we can start 'enjoying' the house

doors and windows will be replaced Sept 05
