2000-2005: F-16 crewchief

wrong choices made this the wrong career

I wanted to enlist as a real soldier with weapons, drill etc...

But my brother told me to choose the Airforce so it was a short career filled with beer...

Germany, 8 years til late 70´s:

Signed up with Luftwaffe (AirForce), aviator first (in an LTG) until a Med issue (unwelcome Hypoglucaemic attack) grounded me after a short service time, just made RHS on the "Trall".

Lt., got transferred to a nominal signals coy (1st of four overall in FRG) within Air Force regiment, starting out from a Radio Group through Comms Platoon to a Staff Communications Center where I made instructor. Really enjoyed this tour.

Got chucked out (literally) in the late ´70s  over an *issue* that lead via a court martial and later via civil case to a final Cpt. promotion on my last day (some on this board know details, in short it involved refusing an order which I deemed illegal), completely clean legally in the end, but w/o a mil future of course.

I am of German origin (and definitely by culture), living in Spain (Spaniard by passport by now, recently)

LTG = LuftTransportGeschwader, C-160 Transalls (never made it past right seat).

As stated, came out Cpt. on my last day of service. Not even close to anything brass-like.

Hey!

Actually, I *am* a true "Frankfurter Bub", born (and raised) in FFM, and even lived for some time on a farm close to Hanau (Bruchköbel, "Rosenhof" in Ober-Issigheim to be exact, see attached - click to enlarge; if you were into horses, you might know the place, as we had a lot of GIs from Hanau on the weekend taking tours on our animals).

As you were in FFM at about the time I left army (my tour was from 67 to 75), we might still have co-incided some time in Sachsenhausen (Bobbies? Irish Pub? Klappergass?), as this was my favorite strip for weekends at that time...  Knipoog

Having spent a couple years in Friedberg, last stop on the S6 (IRC) FFM city train line, DM 6,30 would get me down to Sachsenhausen.  I've spent an evening or two crawling back to the bahnhof from the Irish Pub.

We just called it Frankfurt when I was there. Only later did I even know of Frankfurt am Oder.

I stayed pretty much out of the bars and disco's. I had a philipino girlfriend that I went and visited every chance I got and we did pretty much what she wanted. That meant going to shows etc...on post...lol...

The rest of the time we spent in a quite little bar in Steinheim. Just outside of Hanau. A very small quiet place on the river. Or we would take off into the countryside since two of us had POV's.
