Title: WWII Italian Propaganda
Post by: Alan65 on 23 August 2009, 19:07:43

I have seen several postcards in this series of Italian anti-Communist propaganda.  They all have a quote from Mussolini as a caption; this one reads: "One danger threatens our culture, our integrity and our civilization, and this danger is Bolshevism."Since the quote is dated 1937, this probably refers to the Spanish Civil War--in which Italian and German units fought Russian communists--but this particular postcard was mailed in July of 1943, sent as feldpost from an Italian soldier so the message still resonated with many during WWII.

Well, despite the aggressive graphical layout, until they dont stop issuing the basic uniform layout for the Italians with white handkerchiefs (http://www.the-perfect-necktie.com/White-Navy-Italian-Silk-Linen-Handkerchief.html) I guess we will see very few Italian war heroes (http://www.ebaumsworld.com/jokes/read/280562/), their fame as lovers is bigger than theirs for heroism (they were doing an excellent job in the mountains in WWI though).

Here is a link to a site where a lot of this type of material is sold by/for collectors.  I don't see the cards you have pictured here but take a look:  http://cartoline.delcampe.it/list.php?submitted=Y&language=I&cat=857&var=Cartoline-Postali-Tematica-Militari-Guerra-1939-45&action=current&startedtodaynorenewval_dd=1&endingtodayval_hh=24&sort=price_present_ASC&listtype=onlygallery_Y&listitemsperpage=100&nbpage=20&x=10&y=12&page=19&rs_count=1972 (http://cartoline.delcampe.it/list.php?submitted=Y&language=I&cat=857&var=Cartoline-Postali-Tematica-Militari-Guerra-1939-45&action=current&startedtodaynorenewval_dd=1&endingtodayval_hh=24&sort=price_present_ASC&listtype=onlygallery_Y&listitemsperpage=100&nbpage=20&x=10&y=12&page=19&rs_count=1972)

I look at a lot of postcards; I would not be surprised to see the cards you have pictured in the $15-30 USD range (they look to have corner/edge wear in these scans.)  An especially striking image (some Italian anti-US propaganda portrays Black US soldiers desecrating churches and/or Italian women) could fetch much more ($100-200.)  Also, I can't read the artist's signature in the lower right; don't know of any Italian artists that command higher prices, but there may be some. (Some German artist have quite a following)
