On december 4 , 2014 Major Tuinman of the Dutch special forces was awarded with the military Willemsorde.
King Willem Alexander of the Netherlands awarded him the medal with the knights title.
The major was awarded for his skillfull, brave and competent leading of taskforce 55 in Afghanistan during 2009.
Also present during the ceremony were Queen Maxima, prime minister Rutte, secretary of defence Plasschaert and knight major Kroon.

Examples of Tuinmans performance in Afghanistan:

In September 2009 his men were caught in an ambush, Tuinman managed to get the upperhand and eventually drove back the Taliban able to rescue his soldiers.
In december Tuinman showed excellence in new tactical use of helicopters to search for Taliban fighters.
But its not the first time the major was awarded, early in 2006 for his work in Afghanistan with taskforce Viper he was awarded the Bronze Cross.
Tuinman served for 4 tours in Afghanistan.

Task Force 55

Task Force 55, many risky operations in enemy territory. Operations stretched out over days or weeks where the men had to fight of ambushes, hostile terrain and IED's. Snipers, IED's and enemy fighters made the mens live tough. It was also the first time the army made extensive use of helicopters.

Units present during the ceremony:

Regiment Van Heutz, 11 Airmobile brigade.
Hosts the tradition of the regiments 3 units which were awarded in the Dutch indies in 1849, 1877 and 1930.
Royal Airforce,
Hosts the tradition of the KNIL airforce and the royal airforce during the second world war, both awarded with the medal for actions in 1940 and 1942.
Naval aviation,
Hosts the tradition of the KNIL naval arms, awarded the medal for actions in 1942.
Regiment Garde Jagers Prinses Irene,
Awarded with the medal for actions during the second world war.
US 82 Airborne division,
Awarded with the medal for actions during the second world war during operation Market Garden.
Royal Dutch marine Corps,
Awarded with the medal in 1946 for their actions in the second world war, among them the German siege of Rotterdam in 1940.
Polish 6th airassault brigade,
Hosts the tradition of the 1st airborne brigade, awarded the medal in 2006 for their actions in the second world war during operation Market Garden.
Royal Dutch Navy submarine unit,
Awarded the medal for actions during the second world war.
