Koen, with all due respect:

Its not so much about making us "heard", it´s about becoming "listened to".

Just some details from today, 1 JUL 2011 (NOTE: This is just ONE DAY in Spain!!!):

1. Our tourist minister detained for defrauding 40 Millions Euros (together with 3 "collaborators", all high charges in Balearic government, average robbing pp: 10 Million Euros):

2. Guardia Civil registering the premises of the SGAE (don't know what they are called in your country: The society that claims authors rights and is supposed to distribute author right money to the intellectual proprietors of books, songs, films, etc...), 9 persons incl. its president detained on charges of "deviating 140 Million Euros of public money to their private accounts", average robbing pp 14 Million Euros:

3. All 16 "Ecologists" of the Spanish STATE FOUNDATION to protect rare birds detained for "... forming a criminal association with the goal of using ordinary citizen information to find and sell all rare birds they could get a hand on...", for a total of over 6 Million Euros... robbed pp: 800.000 Euros

This money mentioned in all this post (a total of 180 Millions) was just the money stolen discovered *today*, have you  ever wondered why there are no 500 Euro notes left in the EU?

98% of the fraudsters and corrupts never get caught... This statistics tells you that just *today* another +/- 1.800 Million Euros were robbed from your pockets without anybody even realizing, and this just in Spain....

The planet we live in, and yet I still have the illusion at my age that we somehow can change it, because in the end *we* are responsible for what we have now, as we let this shit happen over decades...

BTW, that's not just Europe (we are rather harmless in this respect - if not in Spain -), in other parts of the world I guess its even worse corruption wise, but to see state organisations just being founded to take your money is more than the Mafia ever did, I am getting paranoid: Bankers everywhere!...

FWIW,

still... the first step is make yourself 'heared', only then other people hear you and maybe...maybe you get listened too...
is there a particular reason so many scandals in such a short time are coming out in Spain?

Nothing in particular, we have an average of 7 scandals coming out every week, and it has been so for the last 20 years: Seems we have the better investigative journalists...  Brede lach

The downside is that we like this know of the other 100 scandals that *don´t* see the light every week.

I think its the same everywhere, here too.
It will be hard to end these things.
Specially if you look at the way banking managers are picking up the same scandalous routine of grabbing money and giving high bonusses.
Most companies will soon follow again like politicians.
For example, if you have been an mp here be it in a town or in the government you receive wages for 6 years after you retire, even if you retire yourself, when I quit my job I receive nothing.
As an mp you dont have to search for other work like the normal workers and they dont get cut on their social security ( which often is at least 10 times more than what a normal working class man receives)
We have a long way to go..................
