Police have shot dead a man after he stabbed three policemen - Gent-Belgium

Wed 18/03/09 17:42 - In Ghent (East Flanders) police have shot dead a man after he stabbed three officers. The officers went to the man's home to accompany him to hospital.

The dead man was about to be placed in a mental institution. He was shot by one of the officers that he stabbed.

The police officers were stabbed in a block of flats in the north east of the city.

The entire neighbourhood was been cordoned off.

The police officers were taken to hospital with head injuries.

"One colleague is seriously wounded" police chief Steven De Smet told the VRT. The injuries are of a nature that the officers had to be hospitalised.

On Wednesday afternoon the officer was still fighting for his life.

you should re-read Steve, the guy used a knife.

those are small appartments where you can do alot of harm with a single knife.

and those were normal streetcops, not the robocop types.

this is a shock for those involved, we're still a country that's kind of low of crimes like these...

the man was someone with psychological problems but well...should you expect this? maybe you should but I guess when you're used to deal with normal streetwork in quite a calm town you can be surprised...
