I agree that there are too many elections.  The other problem is finding out information about the candidates.  There is really no unbiased source to find out about them and what their REAL stands are on issues.  In Texas we elect judges (all the way to the Texas Supreme Court!) , sheriffs, constables, district attourneys, justice of the peace (what ever that is??), mayors, city council members, state lawmakers, and any number of other low level funtionaires.  Sheesh!  Not to mention ballot initiatives and constitutional ammendments.

I was born when Truman was president.  The first one I remember was Eisenhower.  The worst, by far, was Carter.  20% interest rates, inflation, gas lines, Iran hostages and bungled rescue.  He was worthless then and is getting worse!  Hillary said "it takes a village" and Carter is the village idiot.   Bedroefd

Johnson's "Great Society" has destroyed the black population in America.  Three generations growing up on welfare and no end in sight.  The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.   :'(  Then he cut and run.  We spend more on welfare that we do on our military!

Kennedy:  Can you say Viet Nam??  'Nuf said.

Nixon:  Good and bad.  Watergate was REALLY bad and we are still living with the ramifications of that.

Ford:  Who?

Reagan:  My pick for for best modern president.  Won the cold war and made America proud.

Bush I:  Kicked Iraq out of Kuwait.  Didn't finish the job and left if for his son to finish.

Clinton:  Actually not too bad.  The Republican congress kept him in check.  Worst thing was not stopping Al Queda when we had the chance.  He is directly responsible for 9/11 in my mind.

Bush II:  (BTW, he is NOT from Texas, but he got here as fast as he could!   Smiley )  Nowhere near the monster he is portrayed to be.  History will treat him much more kindly than most would like.

Obama:  Who knows.  We shall see.  I am not optimistic.  He is a socialist.  It is obvious that when he started getting security briefings he started to realize what he was getting into.  The worst thing about his election is that, due to increased demand, the cost of ammunition has skyrocketed!   Kwaad

here, the candidates are proud to list their endorsements at the end of their statements in the voters' pamphlet; good hint as to how a judge thinks, or school superintendant will approach the job.  District 34 Democrats endorse candidate #1 and Libertarian party endorses #3?  I'm voting for #3!

re. Nixon, don't forget his price controls and devaluation of the dollar! Nixon: good on foreign policy(!), weak on domestic issues. . .

I used to live in California and it was a little easier.  In Texas they make it harder.  Not sure why.   Onbeslist

I agree with your assesment of Nixon.

No, if Im looking down its because we find ourselves, once again, in a hole of our own digging. and Im trying to figure out if its easier to dig to China, than to get out of where we are.

Johnson: What a pol, many could learn from him...good & bad. I went to Nam on his watch.
Nixon: Nah, I wouldnt buy a car from him either. I once distrusted him immensely, though after Cheney, he seems such a simpleton.  (I came back from Nam on his watch)
Ford: pop up target for assassins
Carter: Wrong place, wrong time, wrong ideas. And if you think he's Looney, wait till you get to know me.
Reagan: Presided over the collapse of the Soviet Republic, (his claim to being the winner, belittles the sacrifice & service, of all the 'Cold Warriors'  for the previous 50 years) and the Iran/Contra fiasco wherein his agents were dealing with Iran while hostages were still held (?). Oh yeah, lets not forget my 242 Brothers in Lebanon, where the rules of engagement, didnt allow for the guards at the gate, to have loaded weapons.
Bush I: Never, ever make the former head of the CIA president! I just dont trust em, they're way to slippery. His handling of Iraq War, Stage 1, was mixed. His plan & execution were well done...72 Hr War!...(*swats away the pesky fly (boy)s* yeah, I know you guys pounded their tails into the sand for a month first, well done. It was the follow up that sucked. There had to be a better plan than leaving SH in power...missed an opportunity there somehow.
Clinton: mayhaps divided govt is the answer. (personally he's still a donkeys posterior)
Bush II: bah...

So it appears; I shall be your lefty, your Liberal, your socialist, your foil. Not a problem. I knew it was a tough job when I signed on. I only ask that you remember, I served my country when called, voluntarily (not drafted) and without reservation. And though I may no longer serve under her colors, I still serve her. And when I die, I expect my last blanket, to be those very colors.

the story ain't over yet...there is a special commission to investigate if/when/who from the government was phoning and emailing to the justice department about the trial on the selling/not-selling an important bank...

that is very, VERY bad....the thick line between justice and politics is a holy matter in Belgium...it shouldn't be crossed...

and now it's done by the people who wrote that law...

man...great to see the prove that they lie...the problem is to determine WHO is the liar....

maybe they should find the one guy who hasn't lied....

the commission should deliver their report before the end of the week....and that in an election year....

It appears that our countries are more alike than previously thought. While I empathize with your plight, it sure feels good to know that corrupt politicians are everyones bane, that is, we're not alone.
