Welcome to War and Tactics!    War and Tactics Forum is currently undergoing some modifications that might disable features you are used to. This is unabvoidable as we have to update the forum engine to a new structure that is incompatible with many of the features we had used so far. The good news: WaT will be more secure and stable, and most of the features we uninstalled will be a natural part of the new structure anyway. For the rest we will be looking for solutions. Oh, I don't object, not at all - inf act the more I lokk at the game (and play it!) the more I like it. But people do judge games by the looks nowadays and it doesn't hurt to try to ge the best possible. Sure, modders will come up with a solution, although I suspect most will stick to CMBN...

I definitely hope we'll see more theaters and even different timeframes - one of my favorites would still be a Cold War era WW3-style game with NATO pitted against the Warsaw Pact...

I think once more gamers play it, and it gets more wide spread recognition of just what it can do, we'll see alot more support by the community.

As far as where the series can go, there have been time periods from WWI through the 1980's and into 2000's. And everywhere from Africa, to the Falklands, to the jungles of WWII and Vietnam. From horses, to thermal imagining, and from biplanes to helicopters and A-10's. Once the base coding is finished anybody could add to an area that interests them. That's the real strength of the game.

I think where CMx2 comes up short in a comparison to PC is in the amount of content per game. While the new CMx2 game series are all very location specific with a short time span and limited vehicle presentation PC is very broad in nature that allows lower end machines to run it.

In all other respects I see the two of them as equal. While being very different they both going to be very influential in their perspective markets.

If you're interested let me see what I can do about getting you an invite into some modding/expansion packs. Let me know.

Good Hunting.

Well, that's not QUITE Cold War, now is it? I meant the 80s - so far, I can only recreate such battles in 'Steel Panthers'. Have heard of 'Steel Beasts' and taken a look at screenshots, but 1) it's way too expensive for a casual gamer like me and b) infantry's (still) missing if I'm not mistaken. So I'll have to wait for another game system to release something like it...

They do have Leo 1 and M1 105 mm with T 64/T72 and BTR/BMP 1 and 2 Smiley
Infantry is modelled but not very well.
And yes, its pretty expensive.
But the old SB 1 is good enough to recreate cold war battles.
I have the Dutch army unit package which also gives you Dutch YPR vehicles.

Maybe we should start a thread for Steel Beasts.

Good Hunting.

OK, back on topic.

I still don't quite realize what the use of the squad order are if I can adjust e.g. each vehicles path or target. And I still don't udnerstand why I sometimes can#t assign targets to each vehicle and soemtimes can - does the squad leader need to be able to manually target an enemy before I can assign targets to the rest of the squad?

PC is a platoon system. As such you give your orders from the platoon level down. It still has the ability to adjust the platoon order for each squad. That's all.

The next game will have a much refined orders system.

Targeting can be by platoon or by individual unit. What do you mean by you can't assign targeting orders "sometimes"? When can't you assign targeting orders? If you can see a target in PCO you can assign a unit to fire at them any time. A unit that is suppressed, or pinned may not be able to fire. If you get the red targeting line the unit will fire if it's unsuppressed.

Good Hunting.

Hm... It IS possible I'Ve overlooked the fact that the tanks wer stunned I tried to assign a target. But what is if the platoon leader is stunned and the others are not? Will have to take a closer look in my next battle, but I though if I can't give the platoon leader an "Enage" order, the platoon members can't get one either...
