this photo postcard has "SS in Warsaw" written on the back (of course there's no way to know precisely if this is true.)
Nice image showing three soldiers with a machine gun mounted on a tri-pod; it appears they are on a roof.  Not sure what the canisters are behind them.

It looks almost staged.  Their boots and uniforms look so clean.  It almost looks like they're posing in front of a backdrop.

Can be true,

The First SS regiments in SSTV had almost all men supplied with pistols.
The uniforms seem like early stage and the usage of the old mg is correct as well.

SSTV= SS Totenkopfverbande.
This is German and means something like SS Deadsheadorganisation.
This was the pre-war SS unit lead by Theodor Eicke, they were mainly responsible for the concentrationcamps, guarding and organisation.
After 1939 they completely transformed into the 3rd Totenkopf division.

MG08 heavy machinegun, German made and used in the first ww by the Germans.
It was sold to several European countries including Poland.
They were used by the SS which had almost no MGs in its TO & E.

Those boxes are for ammunition, see here: http://mg08.de/Zubehoer/Zubehoer.html - no idea what those barrels are for, though. My guess is they're holding some special equipment or spare parts, too. Haven't seen those before...

the barrels could just be something up on the roof--it looks like they're on a roof and roofs are notorious for all sorts of crap sitting up there or vents or something un-related(although I'm only familiar with contemporary US roofs. .  .)

That is another possibility, yes. Doesn't matter too much, anyway, now does it?

Wel the guns are 30+ years old Smiley
I guess the barrels contain oil for the guns to prevent them from falling apart Smiley Brede lach
