Welcome to War and Tactics!    War and Tactics Forum is currently undergoing some modifications that might disable features you are used to. This is unabvoidable as we have to update the forum engine to a new structure that is incompatible with many of the features we had used so far. The good news: WaT will be more secure and stable, and most of the features we uninstalled will be a natural part of the new structure anyway. For the rest we will be looking for solutions. Rattler,

Based on what I have seen, I would be in WAY over my head.  I was a USAF weenie  para in the '60s and know absolutely nothing about WP tactics, stratagies, or equipment.  MR knows 10X more than I do and if he can't hack it, I wouldn't have a chance.   Kwaad

I was hoping to lurk and learn something, then maybe join in a new game down the road.  Let's see if MR can hold on for awhile longer.  He he craps out after a week or so, maybe I will know enough to take over.

Sorry Rattler, I was too slow.  I know way to much about the Red plan to switch now. cry

I used to live in California and it was a little easier.  In Texas they make it harder.  Not sure why.   Onbeslist

I agree with your assesment of Nixon.

I am surprised that only 2/3 think Sharia law is not good for the Neatherlands.  That means that 1/3 think it's OK!   Onbeslist  That's scary.   Bedroefd

Well, there are no REAL troubles here in the Netherlands.
All you see is (mostly) left wing supported groups of Moroccans screaming and jelling anti Jewish slogans.
They also get away with it Bedroefd
Once they try to do things against the law I am sure  they will be dealt with.
A lot of people are allready fed up with these guys, terrorizing entire neighbourhoods.
What you dont see in the media are the people who are against these terrorists.
Dozens of gatherings where more people show up to support Israel and its citizens.
Its just not political "right" to stand up against those  "poor" terrorists.

People tend to forget that the average Moslim terrorist only wants to kill us all.
Its either pro or against, being islamic or dead.
As a civilian in a western country you are a legitimate target in their eyes.
Its time more people  understand its that black and white for the average terrorist.
There is no reason to believe they will not hurt you if you voted against a sitting government, they kill indiscriminately, look to what happened in India......
Whats even worse is that these people can hide /make use of our laws while they are living above these same laws, and dont respect them.

Just my 2 cents.

This doesn't look at all:

WTF are you babbling about this time?   Huh?

The last thing you would need for some sort of covert ops in Texas is a SUBMERSIBLE airplane.   Rollende ogen  Large bodies of water are not one of our assets.  Fire up GE and you will see what I mean.   Grijns

Tanker,

They are for protection from shaped charges, like the bazooka.  They set off the charge before it gets to the primary armor and prevents penetration.

Check out this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaped_charge

That would make more sense if they extended to the top to the vehicle.  As it is the top half is not covered by them.  Pehaps they felt the sloped armor would be less vulnerable to shaped charges?

I think you are right about the slope.  On tank turrets they add the skirts there too.

what is the 'scoring' called on the bottom two images?  did it help camoflague? (less glare/reflection from shiny metal in the sun, for example?)

'Schuerzen' (aprons) are modelled in ASL by doubling the lower die on the 'To Kill' dice roll if hit on a covered side.  the vehicle also loses its Sz if it enters a building/woods obstacle or rubble.  What does CM do?

no muzzle brake on the one in my image.

I'm not sure how CM handles Schuerzen.  I bet someone here does though.   Cool

There is a scroll bar under the three pictures so you can scroll over to see the muzzle brakes.

Nope, the facts are facts, after all, and the lady sure does her research well.

It is the interpretation of the facts that I wanted to shed a light on.

Rattler

What interpretation?  Facts are facts.  "shed light" away.  I'm waiting.   Smiley

Example:

Fact: The volume of a glass is occupied for 50% by water

Interpretation: The glass is half empty

16  War & Conflicts Discussions / Panzer IV & its variants / Re: Info on this picture requested! on: 18 January 2009, 22:34:59
Actually a shaped charge forms a very high temperture jet of material that literally burns a hole through the armor plate like a cutting torch, only much hotter.  The hot jet of flame and molten metal blasts into the interior of the tank, destroying and setting on fire anything in its path.

Not a good place t be when it happens.   Bedroefd

The plates you see attached to later model tanks can defeat the hollow charge by having it go off too far away from the main armor to be able to penetrate.

ok, useful, thx

isn't this the same procedure that's still being used?

Yes.  Any "shaped charges" use the same principle, called the Monroe Effect.  Here is a good article about it:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaped_charge

Some of the WW2 weapons are the Panzerfaust, Panzerschreck, bazooka, and the mine in the picture.  Here is another Wikipedia link:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bazooka

we just got a pamphlet in the mail about the up-coming election for next month here in Seattle.  we're going to choose a new Director of Elections.  we have elections at least once every year--some county-wide, some State-wide and some for national elected offices.  Too many in my mind, it's hard to know much about how to vote for a local judge, say, and by the time it's time to choose a President it's past the time for me in Seattle to have much of an impact on what my choices are.

re. Bush leaving office: I was born during the Johnson administration.  He and Carter are much worse than Bush, to me.  Ford, is probably worse and Bush 1 and Nixon are arguably worse.  Bush is far from the worst President in my lifetime, let alone ever, as some claim. (my view, of course, but I am capable of rationally debating any aspects if you wish  Knipoog)

re. Obama as The Chosen One:  Oprah Winfrey of all people asked "is he the one?" [well, I'd put 'the' and 'one' in capital letters. . . ]

Not that I watch Oprah, or anything!  Ik zeg niets

I agree that there are too many elections.  The other problem is finding out information about the candidates.  There is really no unbiased source to find out about them and what their REAL stands are on issues.  In Texas we elect judges (all the way to the Texas Supreme Court!) , sheriffs, constables, district attourneys, justice of the peace (what ever that is??), mayors, city council members, state lawmakers, and any number of other low level funtionaires.  Sheesh!  Not to mention ballot initiatives and constitutional ammendments.

I was born when Truman was president.  The first one I remember was Eisenhower.  The worst, by far, was Carter.  20% interest rates, inflation, gas lines, Iran hostages and bungled rescue.  He was worthless then and is getting worse!  Hillary said "it takes a village" and Carter is the village idiot.   Bedroefd

Johnson's "Great Society" has destroyed the black population in America.  Three generations growing up on welfare and no end in sight.  The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.   :'(  Then he cut and run.  We spend more on welfare that we do on our military!

Kennedy:  Can you say Viet Nam??  'Nuf said.

Nixon:  Good and bad.  Watergate was REALLY bad and we are still living with the ramifications of that.

Ford:  Who?

Reagan:  My pick for for best modern president.  Won the cold war and made America proud.

Bush I:  Kicked Iraq out of Kuwait.  Didn't finish the job and left if for his son to finish.

Clinton:  Actually not too bad.  The Republican congress kept him in check.  Worst thing was not stopping Al Queda when we had the chance.  He is directly responsible for 9/11 in my mind.

Bush II:  (BTW, he is NOT from Texas, but he got here as fast as he could!   Smiley )  Nowhere near the monster he is portrayed to be.  History will treat him much more kindly than most would like.

Obama:  Who knows.  We shall see.  I am not optimistic.  He is a socialist.  It is obvious that when he started getting security briefings he started to realize what he was getting into.  The worst thing about his election is that, due to increased demand, the cost of ammunition has skyrocketed!   Kwaad

Whew!  That wore me out.  I have to take a nap now.   Tong

I posted this because in an earlier post to Koen I was not sure if Belgum had had any unrest similar to France, Germany, or the Neatherlands.  I found this article that seems to confirm that, yes, Belgum is in trouble too.

I see the usual "kill the messenger" stuff in your reply, but what has any of this got to do with the facts of the story?  Can you refute them or not?  I didn't think so.   Rollende ogen
