Post by: Koen on 31 March 2010, 19:36:43

so...

realistic
turnbased
email
WWII (or other battlefields)

Well... only two games come to mind: 'Steel Panthers' (either SPWW2 OR SP:WaW) and 'John Tiller's Campaign Series'. The latter is not that realistic but much more of an old-fashioned kind of 'old-school' hex wargame, but it's fun. SP is hex-based, too (and has a top-down view), but it is highly realistic and fun to play.
If you're looking for something feeling more LIKE Cm, there 'Panzer Command' (although that makes does everything more or less like CM, only worse) and 'Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943' (which seems to be pretty realistic, but was too confusing for me. Try the demos and decide yourself!

ARMA II is up there as well.
So is Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

But those two are no wargames in the strict sense but rather shooters. If we're talking militray games in general, you can add those. But overall, there is nota lot too chose from as long as you don't play hex-based stuff.

Personally I don't really think there should be a distinction.  It is tactics (and an extention of strategy), just from a different perspective and in real time.
I guess the squad leader in me is still alive and kicking hehe.

But Koen asked specifically for games SIMILAR to CM - which for me implies he's looking for turn-based company-level games. ;)

Anyway, OFP and ArmA are pretty good games and have lots of replay value due to the myriad of mods out there (although none of the mdos I'mr eally intersted in is finished yet).

Panzercommand series are now being tested.
The design team has help from several very good CM players.
Just wait ;)
