A game I have been playing for quite some time, completely (?) off wargaming (but strategically one of the most challenging online games I know), highly recommended for patient and soccer interested folks, well worth the time spent:

Hattrick, the ultimate Soccer Manager Online Game: http://hattrick.org/

It is not for the faint of heart, it is not a short run game, we are talking years to achieve true success. If you feel your life has gone the wrong way at some point (when yo did nt decide to become a soccer trainer or club manager), here is your chance to make good and relive your fantasies (and double check them).

The game is for every nationality, from match live reports (you can follow your matches over the mobile) to everything you find it will be adapted to your national preferences, a truly professional run site.

Plot:

You are a soccer club manager (you start out in the lowest league of your country; it is a worldwide game with around 900.000 players, well adapted for any language or region). You hire and fire staff, tainers, influence on he line-ups for the league, the cup, and even for national games (national managers are elected by the crowd, politics gets interesting here Smiley, you deal with sponsors, fans and opponents, the press is a factor, and it is all very much complicated as in real life... ).

You take over a robot team for starters (right now we just finished one of the 112 days long seasons, yours truly with his team "Sant Elm Serpientes" made it to the next league upwards), so if you start now you will be ready to win your league  this season, robots are not very good and it gives you 112 dys to learn the tricks (you wil need 1200 days to get halfway good.

It is all about balancing hundreds of parameters from team spirit over age composition of your team to money, a true challenge for the straategically minded player. You need to bring patience, though: While in your first season you will find it easy to get promoted one league upwards, from there it is becoming hard to control all the parameters, from fans, over sponsors, players, trainers and the rest... Don´t expect to rule the soccer world quickly.

The game itself is free, has thousands of tactical and strategic POVs and twists, and winning the first league one day gets you the countervalue of 100.000 Euros RL.

If you should ever feel this might be your thingy and are aable to devote 1 hour the week for the next 10 yrs of your life (30 seasons), you stand a chance. If you want to join, feel free to pester me with questions, while a relalive newbie compared to the overall time frame mentioned I have the basics down pat and can help a lot.

If you do not want to play but feel with me, here you can find me (atm, as you can see I will be one league higher next season - which starts in 3 weeks):

http://www82.hattrick.org/World/Series/Default.aspx?LeagueLevelUnitID=170567&TeamID=493130

From this link (my team = "Sant Elm Serpientes") you can follow various other links to see what all is about...

Enjoy, would really appreciate to meet you in a cup or an international friendly,

 Hattrick announces
18-04-2010 Belgium and Greece in World Cup final

It will be an all-European final in the 14th edition of the Hattrick World Cup as Belgium takes on Hellas (Greece) tonight at 20.00 HT-time.

The final takes place under the still ash-free skies of Thailand, but don't jet off just yet because it is all covered right here on Hattrick as well, of course. Very welcome all, and let the best team win!

Go Belgium!

Sorry, bad news:

19-04-2010  Greece wins Hattrick World Cup XIV!

The new Hattrick World Cup champions are Hellas, or Greece as we usually call it. Hellas beat Belgium 2 to 1 in an exciting final, which they dominated. It was never quite out of reach for the Belgians until the final quarter, when, following a red card for Belgium, Yiannis Koutetes scored the winning goal for Greece.

Spain got eliminated in the semi finals, but then won the match for third.

Okies, update:

San Telmo Serpientes made it first in the 9th league this season and became directly promoted to the 8th (which will be hard to win, there is one much better than my team). 20 matches undefeated, only one draw in the mix.

Also, the U20 WC will be organized and start in a few weeks, as neither Spain nor Germany are presenting candidatures to run the event, I am open to suggestions, see the posted poll: Every nation has gones some lenght to present their canidature, chose for me, I will transmit the vote that comes from the poll at the top of this thread (and myself will abstain).

During high school I played football (soccer) for my school as well as a local Portuguese club team. Upon my return from Vietnam I played for several years on various club teams (Portuguese, Spanish and South American). However, I have never much cared to watch soccer from the sidelines or follow it very closely, so I am afraid I cannot vote for something I am unfamiliar with.

Sant Elm Serpientes proudly announce:

After a long season, with only three games lost and one draw, the soccer club San Telmo Serpientes can now announce their promotion to the 8th Spanish league.

 bouncechain

Sponsors, fans and the management are proud to have reached a level where now Spanish Cup particpation is possible (which should allow for extra most needed income), and want to thank the players, the sponsors, the manager Rattlerx and last but not least our 763 hard core fans for having made this third promotion in just three seasons possible.

The outset this morning was interesting: While the team had managed to hold onto 2nd position in the league (1st and 2nd getting promoted) for a while, it was only by one point, and the third in the league, "Idhun Sportive" from the Spanish "Castilla-La Mancha" province, came to our stadium today. Sportive had won in the first match of the season, so everything was open, only a win or a draw would have ascertained promotion.

The match, well prepared by both managers, but made interesting by unexpected rain, finally settled the score for this 9th league:

Quote
Due to an all-day shower, 14040 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at Estadio Sa Palomera.

Serpientes decided to use a 4-4-2 set up, especially designed for rainy weahter and the heavy ground. Lineup: Florczuk - St?pkowski, Strugo, Zob, Wagtmans - Morin, Marinov, Sasi, van der Wetering - Blusevi?ius, Mouzinho de Albuquerque.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Sportive. Starters: Jonsansoro - Chedas, Tinguaro, Reinard - Mindelheim, Evans, Florensà, Spínola, Panadero - Kublik, Le Vaillant.

Serpientes were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks. Sportive showed off their creative tactics.

After 13 minutes, Svetoslav Marinov came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to put away the 1 - 0 goal, giving Serpientes the lead.

Vaidilas Blusevi?ius of Serpientes was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. Dariusz St?pkowski seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in the 2-0 goal for Serpientes after a corner kick that was nicely executed by Eduardo Strugo. The muddy pitch made the game a gritty affair, which seemed to suit Floric? Zob just fine. There wasn't much opportunity for rapid movements on this wet day, which hindered Pedro Tinguaro of Sportive in particular.

Serpientes's Jordi van der Wetering was delighted to score the 3 - 0 goal after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper and into the net, following some good attacking movement on the right wing after 27 minutes.

29 minutes in, Serpientes's Auke Wagtmans received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Svetoslav Marinov increased Serpientes's lead to 4 - 0, putting a header away on a hooked ball from the right. At this point in the game, defending their lead became the main priority for Serpientes and they pulled back.

After 38 minutes, Serpientes were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the kicker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take the team mates a bit by surprise. Alano Mouzinho de Albuquerque did manage a finish, but from an arkward position, sending the ball out of bounds.

Sportive made it 4-1 as Gautier Le Vaillant knocked the corner kick to Mark Evans who whipped a low drive in off the far post. Serpientes's Eduardo Strugo struck his penalty well enough to beat the goalkeeper and extend the home team's lead to 5 - 1 after 41 minutes. Halftime score was 5 - 1. Serpientes claimed to be the more dominant force in the game, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 61 percent.

After 2nd half kick off, with 61 minutes played, Alano Mouzinho de Albuquerque could have brought this one home for Serpientes as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. Sportive were able to mount several counterattacks, such as the impressive one after 62 minutes, but Jens Reinard lofted a free kick over the crossbar.

Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Sportive's Maksymilian Kublik was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 63 minutes. Alan Chwa? was given a chance to change things around. Sportive was now without a captain, so it was left to Alan Chwa? to take the captain's armband.

67 minutes into the game, Serpientes were awarded another penalty that Eduardo Strugo turned into 6 - 1 without a problem. The Serpientes players could smell victory in the air. Eduardo Strugo wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for Jens Gerards after 70 minutes. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Serpientes coach let Zden?k Brych replace Alano Mouzinho de Albuquerque after 75 minutes. Serpientes's Efrayim Sasi wanted to play on, but 75 minutes into the game the decision was made to substitute him for A?an Çile.

Serpientes held the ball, with a clear 61 percent of possession, the match ends 6 - 1.

A big applause to our older players that will leave the team for next season to enjoy their pension and whithout whom we could never have reached this level (next season we will not even think about promotion: Keeping class while restructuring the team with a lot of promising youngsters will be the main focus):

- Jens Gerards (32 with a great future ahead in another club), an excellent Inner Midfielder to whom the club owes at least two promotions,

- Luiz Renato Morales (35), a quick and impressive Inner Midfielder

- Zden?k Brych (35), an excellent Defensive Scorer

and

- Efrayim "The Brain" Sasi (36) who with his brilliant midfield play has been the base of all successes the team and the club had in the three last seasons.

The management is confident that our manager "Rattler" as in the past also in the future will meet the challenges of steering a completely revamped team at this altitude successfully through more adventures to come...

The Proud Sant Elm Serpients Management

There is a way to get the mact report (live) in English, just haven´t discovered it yet for outsiders (I have it set to English)

Wish me luck, the season permanence will depend mostly on this away match, and the chances are not too bad (1/x/2 = 29/24/47 %)

Hey, congrats Netherlands (and also Belgium as 2nd)!

Hattrick again:

Quote
Netherlands take the U20 gold!

In an exciting match Holland succeeded in bringing home the U20 gold medal for the first time in their Hattrick history by beating their eternal rivals Belgium 3-1.

After an early lead, the Dutch controlled the game which resulted in another goal some 20 minutes later. However almost straight from the kickoff, the Belgians managed to reduce the lead and one could say the increased tension was noticeable amongst the spectators. A few minutes into the second half Holland made it 3-1. Whilst the Belgians tried hard, 3-1 was the final score and the gold went to the Dutch.

Congratulations to Holland and their coach Mod-Schumi!
