Post by: stoffel on 13 September 2018, 11:54:19
Former politician Gerdi Verbeet has been installed to lead a commission that will look upon the implementation of new safety rules.
After the accidents in Mali (mortar) and Ossendrecht (SF member shot on shootingrange) new rules were made to improve the safety in the army.
The government issued 75 million for this operation.
Verbeet left the parliament in 2012.

Several plans have been made and implemeted after the commission took office.
Their are now additional safety measures at shooting ranges.
These measures have to be followed.
- Personell cannot ignore the rules anymore regarding safe areas. There position has to be known to the safety official at all times.
- Foreign military personell has to do a brief training procedure with our weapons before being able to shoot at a contest or exercise.
- All foreign military personell has to be escorted on the range by an instructor, this is a change to the old situation were teams of 2 could shoot at the TMPT with 1 instructor present.

After the mali incident the investigators came to conclusion that the 60mm mortar rounds were not properly (if at all) tested, the munitions were also kept in bad storage.
The responsible secretary had to resign. (VVD secretary mevr Hennis-Plasschaert)
