In this story a reporter describes the action by a coalition unit.
The unit was hit by an IED (2 times) during the action, report with pictures, beware if you dont like blood!!

There are different ways to deal with this threath.
2 things are important, electronic countermeasures and recon.
A simple jamming device can destroy at least 90% of the commonly used electonical devices to detonate IED's.
Look at the number of casualties and victims caused by these weapons to the Dutch army.
They were minor compared to the US army.
One of the biggest differences with our approach to that of say, the US marines is that a vehicle stops and its crew does a search if they suspect trouble instead of driving 100 km an hour to try to avoid them.
Our troops go on a 6 week course where they are trained in almost every possibility.
Above that every rifleman is tought the basics of what we call search and awareness.
I will not go into details but the program has been very succesfully.
