German Losses in Afghanistan as by NOV 2009

Incidents (NOV 2009) due to ENY in the Stan for the German Army (that oficially is not participating in the war, but in a peace mission for reconstruction), since war start (99 incidents, 53 WIA, 9 KIA):

Its the politics that makes problems.
We have soldiers and send them on a peace/reconstruction mission.
Ah, oh yes they have also weapons.
OK, than we name it a reconstruction mission only, and they are allowed to defend themselves only......

What lessons did we learn as the military?
We learned that you go in fully committed, fully armed and ready to engage anyone who threathens your mission or the lives of your soldiers.

Now what did the politicians learn?
We send the guys out with rifles only, give them no adequate armor support ( because that can attract violence)
When we are attacked we cannot fight back by taking away the source of the problem.
Why the hell do we need to send soldiers if they are on reconstruction mission?
Unarmed civilian contractors can do that too, and they are unarmed so they will be no target for any insurgent?
Are are they?
Ah yes thats why we send armed soldiers......

One thing we should learn is that if we send soldiers they can attract violence, do we take that risk, ok send them with all support we have.
Do you not want to take the risk, leave them at home!
