Technical diagram.

Basically first grew out of a program to develop a purely Korean supersonic jet trainer aircraft but eventually settled for a joint program with Lockheed Martin where technology and experience was considered adequate.  I suppose what KAI learned was how the process of developing a new combat aircraft is like since they learned how to manufacture fighter aircraft through producing KF-16s.
Variations of the T-50 such as the TA-50 and FA-50 can be used as trainers as well as F-16 Lites and can be an attractive addition to countries that operate F-16s, want a bigger airforce but can't afford to fill it with F-16s.  Interoperability will be a huge plus.  Already undergoing trials in numerous air forces world wide.

Nice.   I'd love to fly one of those.

No it is a spinoff if the F-16.  Its primary role is supersonic trainer aircraft.  Secondary role (for armed variants) is light attack or fighter jet.

Well your Sukhoi orgy did hijack the thread but what the heck.
The T-50 is a supersonic trainer aircraft designed mostly for countries that operate the F-16 and to fill the numbers in such air forces with additional aircraft with a comparable performance at a lower price.
To put thrust vectoring on it would be great but would defeat the purpose of the aircraft itself.

As for translations.  You gotta wait a week... I'm on really crappy internet right now.

we have a training F-16 squadron in the BAF and that costs alot of money for a small country like Belgium
a squadron of planes for half the price would save alot of money
