E-3A AWACS aircraft from the NATO Airborne Early Warning and Control Force (NAEW&C Force) provided airspace security and surveillance support for the President of the USA during a visit in Germany on 4 and 5 June 2009. The AWACS are modified Boeing 707s (called E-3A), which are equipped with special radar capable of detecting air traffic over large distances and at low altitudes as well as it is capable of tracking ship traffic. The data can be transmitted directly from the aircraft to command and control centres on the ground, sea or in the air.

Well, some of the plane I liked most (and, before you ask, I am only competent on A models):

This one has been published in a study of downwash created by a/c, a French C-160 deploying flares, photoshopped for the downwash effects (my avatar has the original)

The most beautiful TurboProp plane ever built, IMHO (another French one)

The layout:

A German one, for a change, flaps deployed to allow the UH´s to keep pace

German (D model my guess? All?) cockpit, first showing the principal stuff, the other (part of) the secondary:

German flares, this time (D model)

Work (A model?):

And now, they are going where the planes go when they are dying... :( (French)
