Title: WaT has new host
Post by: TechAdmin on 26 October 2010, 02:17:32
We moved the forum this weekend OCT 24, 2010 from the Belgian host vibit.eu to a Spanish host, Hostsuar.com  (http://www.hostsuar.com/).

This had various reasons:

1. vibit.eu showed to be fairly expensive for what they offered (actually nothing except space and bandwith)

2. Whenever I had problems on the localhost base of the forum (their stats, e.g., did not work and I was kept in the dark), by vibit I never got a reply, and I find their support is very hard to contact for starters. Another good example is that, when we sent them an email preparing the migration on Saturday and requesting some information about the DNS entry, they finally replied today (Monday!) stating that "as all companies we are closed over the weekend"... from my POV an absolute no-no for a host  hdbng

3. I have over the last two years made excellent experience with the people from Hostsuar.com  (http://www.hostsuar.com/)with other forums and blogs, their technical support is available 24/7/365, and how they handled the migration process showed again that the choice to migrate to them was the right idea: They helped me up and down in various replies to my sometimes I am sure rather dumb questions and in the end even did the transfer directly from host to host on their fast optical access to save me the time to dl/ul the files all by myself. Perfect job by Hostsuars tech supporters Alejandro and Carlos, can only again express how greatful I am  iconclap iconclap!

4. The server we are located on now is way faster than the old one, I am sure you have realized already. It is called bird, and it is located in a datacenter in London, for those interested in such stuff. Should it ever go downline, all mebers can get update on what is happening, or why we are down, here: http://status.hostsuar24h.com/ (http://status.hostsuar24h.com/)  Enter our domain and you will get information about incidents on the server side (none currently).

5. We have now the qudruple disk space (4GB, which we need) and 10x the bandwith as before (40Gb monthly now, which we dont need yet), we were rapidly running out of diskspace on vibit.

This just as explanation why we had the forum closed "for maintenance" over the sunday.

recently with the launch of Pro Patria (http://www.propatria.info) I had contact with our host and all I can say is that the support is GREAT!

I appreciate it alot when people share their knowledge without acting as an Ubermensch!

They take the effort to help you out, do their best in writing in English and much more!!

Whenever you want to set up your own website/forum feel free to contact TA or myself and we'll guide you towards http://www.hostsuar.com/ (http://www.hostsuar.com/)

I can only second Koen in this assesment, the hostsuar guys (link in English) (http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=es&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=es&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hostsuar.com%2F) as host are from my semi-professional POV the best thing since internet was invented, and if you want to spread that news elsewhere you have my full support.

For various reasons I still have to deal with other hosts on a professional basis, and the comparison shows abysmal differences (and we are not talking true anti-hosts like vibit). I am not sure how long hostsuar can keep up that good work (as when companies tend to grow they also sometimes lose focus, servers and help desk tend to get overloaded, etc. Been there, done that...) and how the crisis affects them, but I sure wish them all the best (not only out of pure egoism... ;D).

This said, there are some limits they have not yet overcome (based on legal issues here in Spain that are not in their hands), so you might have to make one or the other concession: You cannot, e.g., register all domain endings, you cannot have a deposit or account to draw from, etc., but there are workarounds that I am glad to help out with if needed. In comparison and impact these concessions are small bumps on a road to a succesful cooperation with one of the most responsive and responsible hosts I have known so far, there is so much crap out there that have a brilliant appearance, but here you get what you pay for.

As host, 10 out of 10 by me.

TA (aka Rattler, aka Matt Ohlmer)
